After some fiddling in the first week I never really cared about getting my gog games to my Deck - but now for that I'd be interested what's the best option to install, keep up to date and sync my saves?
There are still a couple of really old forests but yeah it's increasingly rare
I'm in the same boat
I feel it should't be per search but rather limit billing to 1 per 5 minutes or something that is somehow identifying context so if I am searching for the same thing and trying out different queries to see what gives me the best result that shouldn't count as 5 queries if I'm just adding or removing words from/to an earlier query
Free speech absolutist when they are elected...
That's exactly why it's so dangerous to allow those people to spew their hate under the guise of free speech - once they can they will totally shut down other voices...
Celebrity cults really need to die out...
People going crazy over what person X did have for breakfast is annoying and useless as it is but with influencers that shit reached a new level.
Also if people are occupied with that they have less capacities for more important things...
You can't easily tell it to replicate any painting for you - with current AI you can do that with almost any book it trained with
If you are buying stock in such magnitudes you also have voting power over how the company develops which is no small factor
If you see two competing companies of which one is doing something that you think is stupid and the other is doing something way better then you should be able to give them money for their development and at the same time have a chance to partake in it.
It's just that as a normal person you won't be fast enough for that since a lot of the potential is already calculated and priced in a second after the announcements.
Daytrading and betting on huge growth is just gambling - I completely agree. But the kind of long term value investing like for example Buffet is doing has it's place
Is hero launcher still the best option to install gog games and keep them up to date or is there a new way?
Haven't really don't much with mine besides steam since shortly after I got it since it was too many hoops to jump through but for this I'll do it again
The problem is that the AI can print the book word for word if you ask the right questions and at that point it's breaking copyright again but that's not a problem with the learning part but with how AI has no concept of understanding context at all
I think there is a point for professional investors checking balances, shorting fraudulent companies etc.
But especially private investors will always be behind the wave and at that point it really is gambling since they don't have a chance against the nanosecond high-speed trades from banks that have a direct cable to the marketplace.
You are enabling that corruption though and have the active choice to not do
Building new nuclear capacity takes a lot more time than building wind turbines and solar parks though.
Sure shutting the existing ones off is a bad idea but building new ones isn't the way
Also the building part consumes a lot of CO2, too, so it takes a bit longer than with renewables until your are break even.
I feel like a lot of those pushing for Nuclear don't see how France is relying on neighbouring countries in the summer because of the rivers not carrying enough water or not being cold enough for protest cooling and that factor will only get worse - especially with ACs being absolutely essential in summer in the next 50 years.
Sure keeping a good amount of nuclear for base level is good but especially if you're also doing renewables it's far too inflexible to be good if you have a sunny day with a lot of wind - so you need huge energy storage anyway if you want to completely remove gas and oil and at that point renewables are better in using those than nuclear
No-one is forcing anyone to eat meat - not doing so is cheaper.
No-one is forcing anyone to fly into holiday - doing so is also cheaper.
And those two are by far the most impactful things a single person can do.
It's just that presented with a choice of doing the right thing and doing the thing that's best for themselves most people are egoistic.
Even poor people can vote with their wallet.
Ramen noodles aren't the problem
There are a lot of vegetarian ramen noodles out there...
that regulation won't happen though
if a politician says that from next month on flights, gas and meat will be taxed according to the environmental impact then I'm pretty sure that politician won't be in office anymore that next month.
For sure we need those kinds of regulations since most people won't lift a finger if it's inconvenient for them - but if noone is showing the politicians that they have support with ideas like this it's far too risky for them to do and they will just pass the "bomb" to the next government and hope that it goes off when they are in power.
In Germany Merkel for 16 years completely slept on housing (specifically the heating) being a main factor for environmental impact of the whole country and now the current government has to kind of hit the brakes hard and named a deadline after which it's impossible to install new gas-heating anymore and the backlash was HARD. Would this have been tackled earlier the impact would have been far less but it's just too risky for politicians to even try something like this if they want to stay in power.
That's why I think that something like a Citizens' assembly it probably the only way possible to implement something before it's too late. As long as there are politicians hoping to be reelected noone will even try - and if there aren't assemblies then starting a movement of individual change is the only chance we got
current beneficiaries
I think the main problem is that this isn't just the owners of some corporation but also the average citizen.
it's objectively a downgrade if you don't have the option to fly for holiday and see other cultures every year. It's definitely a downgrade to have to adhere to train-schedules instead of just hopping into your car.
the problem is always "why should I do it if others don't" and then nothing moves - and since it looks to politicians as if noone wants to do anything they don't implement measures...
solar powered flight won't happen as batteries are too heavy - that's imho the main-thing we should use hydrogen for (other than perhaps chemical/steel-companies)
beef is never a good option because of the amount of food you need to even get to the end-product - it's just too inefficient. And in a world where we already destroy enough species by climate change we will need to cut down on chemicals to kill the few insects that are left and in result the birds that rely on them and do even worse damage to the ecosystem that we can't even comprehend. but if we don't use chemicals to kill insects we will need more space to grow the same amount of food and we just don't have the luxury of using that to feed cows in order to get to meat.
not to mention that "locally sourced beef" won't help if it's food is soy coming from a farm that was rainforrest 5 years ago
it's just a huge prisoner's dilemma and noone wants to be the first person or the first country to move out of fear that others might exploit that. I mean you have people online telling everyone stating that they are vegan for the climate that they'll eat twice as much meat now just to make up for it - or people flying multiple times a year since they just don't care. Social responsibility never will work on it's own but without it there won't be any laws...
And people want something out of the options given to them
but there are responsible options - people are just too lazy (flying, driving) or too entitled to change their habits (meat, milk, also driving) to make the right choice. Sure sometimes it's more expensive but many times it's actually less expensive (like biking or not eating meat) but people still don't care enough to make those changes to their habits and are actually furious if politicians are only suggesting that they should.
People are not one homogeneous group with enough power to be the change.
but they actually are - many cities are already making it harder for people to drive a car there and far easier to use the bikes because people living there want it that way. Or for example the biggest producer of meat-replacements in Germany was a purely meat-producing company 20 years ago and are currently on a trajectory to not produce meat anymore because people kept buying their replacements in an amount that their profits from those surpassed those from meat a couple of years ago.
Voting with your wallet totally works.
look up subsidies to milk-producers
the price is still high compared to milk because milk is selling for far less than it should be (even if you completely ignored environmental cost) and many oat milks try to match that price-point as good as they can and are even selling at a loss (see Oatly)
a lot of food is costing very little in comparison because the government is subsidizing it - shifting subsidies away from meat/dairy would make them cost more and potentially bankrupt local farmers - I just don't see that every happening with how many people are thinking they have a right to eat meat every day
also for example in Germany there are two tax-brackets for sales-tax the standard 19% or the reduced 7% - "basic-foods" are taxed at 7% and that includes milk and meat while oat-milk and meat-replacements are taxed as "special food" at 19% so that's also a barrier that you just can't break down by scaling better
there are a lot of levers but pretty much all of them will have to result in meat and milk prices rising deliverately because of politicians - don't tell me that you believe that this won't result in a fundamental shitstorm against them...
governments can only want what the people want
look at the outcry when the Ukraine-War slightly increased the gas-prices - now imagine what would happen if Governments skewed the product-costs towards the real costs for the environments
The change has to start with the people so the governments have a chance to actually change anything without commiting political suicide
noone is forcing people to buy meat - they do it because it's far too cheap for what it causes to the environment - which government do you ever see increasing meat-prices tenfold if only a handful of people shows them that they are open to go without meat deliverately?
Afaik this is impossible on the play store because of some newish guideline
They don't want two identical apps if the whole point of the purchase could also be an in-app-purchase.
I'm not sure it's worth risking a ban to try this
