  • Not really. ATI were always “G is for graphics” and built video games cards. They never really saw the potential (nor did they have the resources anyway) for GPGPU, which is why NVIDIA had a huge first-player advantage (CUDA is 16 years old, 2 years before AMD acquired ATI). When AMD bought them it was already very late.

Then AMD wanted to build cards for people to buy while NVIDIA was more than happy selling overpriced cards to crypto miners.

OpenCL was an ambitious project that was too big and too open for what was capable from the Khronos group. Vulkan was too late.

Intel could have done it but IIRC the CEO at that time (can’t remember the name) didn’t want to diversify their products after Itanium was a failure. They just doubled down on CPU.

  • Also they basically invented software keyboards. People didn’t think you could have an efficient software keyboard, even the android prototypes still had a physical keyboard for typing.

  • I’m not sure what you’re asking. Plenty of modern languages use the unit type; typescript, Rust, not sure you consider Haskell a modern language.

From the look of it, this language seems to use it in a function signature declaration, which would make sense.

  • They literally had “fundraising for the Open Hand Foundation” on their banners every year.

Whether or not these were literal frauds, it’s very shady and should destroy his reputation. I’ll let the lawyers figure out the rest.

  • Looked up into it. It’s not just fans and it’s not just YouTube. They ran fundraising golf tournaments that they ended straight up not even reporting on their taxes (we’re talking well above 100k$ missing). It’s very shady.

  • Correct. This is not a multi player. Either they’re talking about some devops or internal tooling, or they are just weaseling out of the real excuse, or it was a scam from the start and the day never intended to finish the game (which many people believe at this point).

Whichever is true, stay clear of that studio and those people forever.
