  • Look, I'll watch Michelle Yeoh in almost anything, including this, but I can't get past the fact that they're using "genocidal tyrant" as shorthand for "lovable badass" to characterise Georgiou. It was a glaring problem in Disco, and it continues to be so here.

"But, but... She redeemed herself!" Nope, you don't get to pull that card for a character who "murdered her own people by the millions". There is just no coming back from that.

  • Is this the first confirmation that Tilly will play a part in the Academy show?! Because it seemed so obvious that she would, given the 32c setting, but I'm not sure we saw it spelled out officially before. Glad to see Jett Reno back, too.

I'm loving how the Doctor (no, the Voyager one) is having a moment with appearances in both Prodigy and Starfleet Academy. He was an MVP on VOY and given the character is an artificial person it stands to reason he could be active or reactivated several hundred years later.

  • Get rid of downvotes/upvotes

This. I haven't found a way to disable up/downvotes, even just their visibility in the UI. I understand the value of users rating post and comments, however I think the visible metrics turn Reddit and Lemmy alike into competitions for karma points rather than discussion.

  • Ugh, pass. This show is now in permanent hijinx mode.

  • Same for me. I thought the "character" songs were anaemic and toothless, but the comedic beats worked tremendously.

  • I feel your pain. I've searched a bit online and found several different methods (not for Acer though) that all go way over my head. I just leave the BIOS to deprecate on its own by now.

  • Marktext does this for me, can't compare 100% to Obsidian as I've rage uninstalled that several times within an hour of installing it.

  • Thanks for clearing that up 🙂 Still, migrating all your locked-in reviews or whatever to the Fediverse is a pretty big deal for compulsive opinion-havers!

  • ...but at some point those giant sites may go offline. I see the point of archiving them now for posterity, but you're right. The archive shouldn't be used as a concurrent mirror of those sites for privacy reasons.

I have my browser set up to redirect Reddit links to libreddit instances for that purpose.

  • I'm confused about this part:

the platform offers an incredible piece of insight about data: “You don’t have to start over from scratch. You can totally just add your old data to your graph.” This idea is key to understanding what NeoDB actually is: a tool for piecing your online data together under one open, free, federated account.

So I get that it imports your reviews and posts from the big, closed platforms like IMDb, but could it also be used as a hub for different Fediverse accounts? Because the first part is cool, the second could be significant in terms of profile management?

  • I'm petty enough to downvote anything remotely endorsing shitcoin, this one's for you 🤝

  • Report them and hope that mods agree?

  • I was referring to the "just skip the hosting step" part. You may be right about Joplin but you're wrong about the suggestion.

  • Yeah, they seem to be downplaying the malware bit in that paragraph.

  • Three days and nobody mentioned TempleOS? If attempting to build The Third Temple in the form of an OS isn't niche and exotic, I don't know what is. 🤣

  • So, classic webring navigation consists of arrows to the next and previous ring instances, as well as a link to the ring index. By their nature, webrings are manageable-sized communities by nature. I don't see how that can be improved upon by a search function?

  • other structures probably have a lot to provide here, especially if they’re amenable to some basic search facility

I got real excited about the webring returning. This... not so much. Keep it simple.

  • Pandoc, for sure. I love its versatility, it's made it super easy for me to do most of my writing in markdown — and a lot of MD editors have it built-in as an export feature.

But I use it too rarely to know the CLI commands by heart, and sometimes it would just be super helpful to open a GUI and batch convert (and/or collate) a bunch of files to a new format.

Tell you what, throw Imagemagick and maybe a light OCR backend into the package as a Swiss Army Knife for document management, I'd probably be happy.

  • I know this might be asking for trouble, but how does BunsenLabs compare to CB++? I know they both came out of Crunchbang but I went with BL when that died.

These days I'm on EndeavourOS, but I still use Openbox instead of DEs and customize it to look as much like Crunchbang as possible 😄

Edit: also, I feel naked without Conky on my desktop.
