If getting paid for the work you do that people are willing to pay for is greedy, then yes I suppose he is greedy, and so are everyone else who works for a living and try to up their earnings.
Not contrarian at all, just different preferences. The simple answer for many people is one of habit. Sync was the only way for many people to access Reddit for a long time (including me) and it just felt like home.
I personally am a big fan of Voyager as well and it's really nice to see the vibrant apps scene on Lemmy.
It's perfectly fine to use the app and only pay when you feel like it, say you feel when the Fediverse grows to be fun enough. Or alternatively never pay and just use the free version. Or use something like Voyager / wefwef which is a fantastic app in its own right. You have the choice.
$20 really isn't a lot when it's an app you use everyday. If you don't spend enough time on Lemmy then yes, it may not make sense to buy but if you do it's really a no-brainer.
Also I would argue Apple / Google's whole app store pricing model when it first started out really devalued good software. $1.99 for a lifetime support of an app? Come on. $20 is reasonable.
Who cares if he is rich. He is making a good product and people want that product. He can charge whatever he wants, there is no point taking it personally. If you don't want to pay, there is no one forcing you - you can even continue to use the app for free if you want.
My point is with this legislation we effectively removed news outlets from the "source pool", and all the remaining sources you can rely on Facebook is the questionable ones.
What do you mean? The same people who get "news" from Facebook will still get "news" from Facebook. It will just no longer involve any actual media companies. Think blogger, pseudo-news and AI generated content - fake news gonna fake.
+1. It's one of those games that got better overtime. When it came out in 2019 there were people like, "Really? A hiking / Amazon Prime simulator?"
But after the Pandemic, the isolation and theme of yearning connections really hit home, and the entire design and philosophy just clicked and worked for me. I started appreciate everything about the game. I think Hideo Kojima even said he's going to try and not predict the future in Death Stranding 2 😄
Chrono Trigger. A timeless game that will make you laugh and cry and experience all that in between. The sequel Chrono Cross is also great but the original is just unrivalled.
I don't think Tildes is turning anyone away, not sure where that narrative comes from. Anyone can request an invite from the owner themselves. They are just not looking for explosive growth like some of the other services are.
In fact I think the invite system is an effective way to keep the boys away as the free-for-all signups are easier to game.
Well yeah, you are probably going though Reddit withdrawal. Comparing anything to Reddit and it'll seem dead.

Not a fan of your incendiary language and provacatory flaming attempts, but pretty on-brand for refugees who misses Reddit like an ex. I mean, Reddit is still around and I'm sure they'll take you back, just apologize and use the Official App™!
I don't know what you mean by paying 2.5x in the span 1 month.
I also paid for Sync Ultra for Reddit if you are referring to that app.
