  • Libretube is what you are looking for. It uses piped api. It's also available on F-droid.

Newpipe or Newpipe X Sponsorblock is also a good option.

  • Usually there won't be any issue in having 2 DEs. But if you uninstall the first DE after you install the second DE - it's possible to accidentally remove some common packages. This could result some weird behaviours, but the DE in most cases should still be usable.

  • If you are comfortable with fedora and want KDE as your Desktop, then you could try out Fedora's KDE spin among other spins avaialble at https://fedoraproject.org/spins/

Also If you haven't already gotten familar with the command line, I recommend you do that as it's gonna be the same no matter what Desktop you choose to use. Plus it's gonna improve your Linux experience and your life.

  • Also checkout freetube. It's a desktop application. It can be configured to use invidious instances.

  • 'Open in new tab' and 'infinite scroll' options.

Oh and also.. Search suggestions as you type, that would be awesome.

I quite like this search engine as it is right now. The features I mentioned are all 'nice to haves' so it's not a big deal even if these are not added.

  • I saw this on another post about Searx. I was curious so I checked out the search and its pretty good. I did not see a lot of settings to configure tho

  • Its a meta search engine that you can configure. It's also selfhostable.

  • I hope more newer phones get supported by them.

I have a samsung galaxy s23 and I need to scratch my de-google / custom rom itch.

  • I'd like to know as well.

Currently, I just copy paste everything into a Markdown file and use syncthing to sync such files to all my devices.

  • Openbsd is really good but it is not linux. It doesn't have as much packages as linux and may perform a bit slower on applications compared to it's linux counterpart. Also, drivers for some hardware may not be available for Openbsd. Some filesystems like btrfs are not supported.

Still, openbsd and freebsd are worth checking out for learning about UNIX like OSes and routers, servers etc. It can also be daily driven if you can make do with the available packages.

  • Then check out droid-ify. It has a really clean looking UI that won't get in your way.

  • I wish fairphone was avaliable in some Asian counties at least.

  • Yes, I've experienced that too. Newpipe generally functions smoothly on my phone, working around 98% of the time. However, when I opt for invidious, the videos sometimes doesn't play.

Recently, I've been leaning towards using Freetube more. I've configured it to include invidious in the settings. It appears that it seamlessly switches between different invidious instances, ensuring an better user experience than just using a normal invidious instance.

  • Thanks. I am aware of other instances, but my friends and family don't understand the point of it. Anyways.. I'll see if I can get them to try other instances of Jisti.

  • Basically it's a piece of software that renders visual effects. It can also eliminate Frame tearing and minor janky visuals that you would see in a Window manager session.

Picom is the one people usually use in Xorg.

Picom allows you to specify window border corner radius and such which can help you fine tune your Rice's looks.

  • This is indeed sad news. I made my friends (who don't care about free software) switch from google meet to jitsi for video calls just the other month.

The only thing that got them sold on jitsi was that it required no login.

  • If you don't play games like valorant, and only need windows for specific tasks then going with a windows VM is a good option.
