I've said in the past and will say it again. Despite someone talking nonsense, being rude, having wrong opinions, silencing them is not ideal. If nothing else it's exactly the behaviour of Totalitarian regime that this action is aimed at.
That seems unlikely. I can see them blocking you as long as they detect ad block but not banning account / IP wise. It would lead to many non-tech people to be banned without understanding why and those are majority of their viewers who are easiest manipulated into watching ads.

Newer content is still lacking on alternatives. Like coding tutorials or documentaries etc.
On the other hand I found many old forgotten internet classics on these alternative sites like old ads and funny clips that we used to watch at 240p back in the day.
Me personally, I didn't mind ads back in the day when they weren't so annoying. But somehow YouTube + content creators made ads so annoying at some point that I started to use ad blocker and sponsor skipper.
My theory is that by becoming so aggressive with ads , YouTube income / video actuallly decreased due to people getting fed up with ads and getting ad blockers. Now they go even more aggressive so people will start to look for alternatives.
It'll be interesting to see following development.

BTW taking civilian hostages is very well definition of human shield. That's the whole point of hostages. Your terrorists friends use them as meat shield, so their oponent is forced into dilema, either risk loosing their people or to give in. Bank robbers, airplane highjackers, etc... use this all the time.
You might be confusing it with taking enemy combatants into jail to prevent them fighting in war. But even those are not paraded trough streets, naked, half-dead/ dead, with dislocated limbs, on truck, while being spitted on.
They took the hostages and killed tons of people , it's all over security cameras, there are witnesses, people from German and other countries recognized those hostages as their family member. Hammas posted video of dealing with those hostages. Hostages are women, kids and men.

I'm ststating that Russians don't seem to be directly afected aside from having their favorite EU vacation destinations accessible via France or Turkey instead directly from Moscow.
It means that so called collective punishment was either ineffective or so mild, that it had almost no effect on dayly lives of citizens.
You compare this with bombing city, being cut out of water, food, medicine and energy.
If anything, Russians collectively punished Ukrainians by shelling,detroying their energy and tradic infrastructure to make winter as bad as possible for UA.
You forgot to mention that in some places if you come with aid your lifeless body gets paraded half naked through the streets on pickup truck and spitted on or mutilated on spot.
You also forgot to mention that while EU people feel sorry for suffering of all kids. Some places you talk about celebrate death of every caucasian looking kid as new year event.
It might be one of the reason why some place don't get e.g. international humanitarian help.
Blocking neccesities for civiliana like water is a war crime. Encircling enemy state after it lanched offensive to yours is not, otherwise e.g. allies pushing Nazis all the way back to Berlin was also crime.
This is not valid in all cases as I know multiple Russians and those living in EU continue to do so with no issue and those living in RU say it doesn't affect them. You can even find interview with random RU citizens in RU and they all say it doesn't affect them or that they want to attack UA BC Nato boarder is too close.

The way you put it is misleading. If you want a change, you have to act to be heard. If you get enough people to be heard, things will start to change. Also historically AFAIK Canada had car alternatives, but people like you decided not to use them. So there was no incentive to keep them.
