  • I agree that ignoring 4.6% of the provincial population is misguided. I'm certainly not advocating for it, but that's the reality.

In the context of Bill 21, what does it mean to take a bill seriously when it doesn't affect you? As far as I'm concerned, the Liberals would never implement something like that nationwide even if they were forced to more significantly rely on BQ for support.

  • Considering that Muslims and anglos are minorities in Quebec, I doubt the Liberals or BQ care about that as long as they can get their flagship bills voted through. Like I get where you're coming from, I just don't think they give a shit.

  • Carney could literally ignore the NDP for the next 4 years and I doubt it would make any difference. I say this as an NDP voter.

BQ has over 3 times the seats, it makes way more sense to try to work with them because you only need to convince 4/22 of them instead of 4/7 (and the things that BQ asks for in return may be a lot more politically achievable than whatever the NDP asks for, because they like to go big).

Carney may also want to cosy up to Quebec voters who were not entirely impressed with his French and don't trust him. Having a good relationship with BQ may go a long way for these people.

I don't love it, but the NDP don't have leverage here.

  • On Friday, the Conservative Party announced Conservative MP-elect Damien Kurek will resign to allow Poilievre to run in an upcoming byelection.

Kurek was first elected in the Alberta riding of Battle River—Crowfoot in 2019.

The Conservatives handily won that riding on Monday with nearly 82 per cent of the vote.

Of course it's Alberta and solidly blue.

  • About time. You have to wonder whether that'll stop any of the others, though. They were creating fucking tutorials for this shit and spreading it. A lot of these people torturing kids were other kids. Really horrible stuff.

I hope the victims are or will be okay.

  • From a data analysis perspective, it doesn't really make sense not to ask for it if it's going to be affecting every aspect of a person's life. Knowing the implications of belonging to a particular caste in terms of life circumstances and statistical outcomes could be valuable.

That said, I don't trust a dictatorship to collect, analyze, and draw conclusions from demographic information fairly or responsibly.

  • I'm currently playing Research Story, that one is pretty cute. There are romances. I don't know about combat since I haven't gotten that far (just a few hours of play); it doesn't really seem like there will be combat, but there could be.

I'd also recommend Apico, Mudborne, Littlewood, or Fields of Mistria. I'm sure I'm missing a ton. I think Steam has "Cute," "Romance," and "Slice of Life" tags if you wanted to browse those on the storefront.

  • Yeah, it's sort of a failure of their education system that these people can't put 2 and 2 together. I really hope they're smart enough not to FAFO on a referendum, but the fact that Smith keeps pushing for it is a big deal.

I believe that she could stir up enough fervor that the province votes to leave because they're high on false promises. If they do, there's no "take-backsies." It's a one-way ticket out of the country no matter how many people suffer for it.

  • Eat shit, Doug. We're not an autocracy or a dictatorship. You should know that since you've (unfortunately) done this fucking job before.

On Wednesday, Ford dismissed the idea of judicial independence and denounced judges who he sees as not tough enough on crime.

"You know something, that's a joke as far as I'm concerned," he said. "There's no judge appointed anywhere in this country, anywhere in the United States, anywhere in the world, that's not a political appointment. Simple as that. You think these judges just come out of the blue?

Then why do you sound so surprised/angry that these judges, who were appointed by another party, don't just vibe with everything you do? Obviously, you just want to be able to move around/fire these judges so they're not inconvenient for you. That's despotism.

  • I'm sort of hoping they do leave just because they don't seem to understand that they are an economically weak province outside of oil. All of their eggs are in one basket and they think that, because it's a lucrative basket, it makes them important and powerful. It doesn't. The point of our confederation is that we, together, are strong in a wide variety of industries.

Danielle Smith is going to find out very quickly that she and Alberta need the rest of Canada a lot more than Canada needs Alberta. Also, say goodbye to your CPP, OAS, and EI contributions. The impact on schools, water treatment, pharmaceuticals, food safety, and road regulations alone are significant cause for concern. I guess she just doesn't care whether Albertans are safe, educated, and healthy, she only cares about oil.

  • The Bloc Quebecois and the NDP both took 6.3 per cent of the vote, and will hold 22 and seven seats, respectively.

Our electoral system is fundamentally misrepresentative by design. We desperately need proportional representation.

  • I like Busuu. But like Duolingo, using it by itself isn't a good idea; you need to study grammar and vocabulary separately to learn at a decent pace.

Busuu's best feature is its community corrections from native speakers, but they've been nerfed a lot in the past decade. You can still get something out of it though, just don't pay for premium (even on sale) because it's not really worth it.

  • Okay, well a national entity of some kind is the one issuing these certificates, from my understanding. If you lived in Scotland, it would be issued by the government of Scotland. In my country, we use the term federal because we are a confederation.

  • It'll be all torn up inside one of the machines, probably rip open the package and create a bunch of plastic shreds, and ruin the day of one of their equipment technicians. USPS is not easy on lettermail, their equipment manhandles it.

Just use the back of a cereal box or something.
