  • :) ChatGPT had actually given me the observer syntax, I used it for the first plugin on the community šŸ˜ŽšŸ˜Ž ChatGPT made most of it too hahah. It's simple enough.

I am actually a professional web developer. But that doesn't mean I'm amazing at it, though I do know a few... practices, not sure if I should call them "best practices" or even "good design" hahahah, I just do what it takes.

I switched the whole thing to typescript though which tends to produce better results for complex things. Typechecking at compile time saves a shitton of debugging time. For the rest of things like the addon folder structure, dependencies and anything else, I just ask ChatGPT. It is now my universal encyclopedia! 🄸 (encyclopedia, assistant, codemonkey, proofreader, second brain for when mine turns off and also my new source of type errors cuz its common sense is sometimes nonexistent)

  • ah, nice to know! :) Thanks, and I'm super glad to have you back. I've actually been using your script (version 1.3) as a basis for another plugin I'm making. I'm not sure it'll see the light of day but it's fun, and it's my first attempt at a firefox extension.

  • pawb.social is refederated again, so all goes back to normal for now :) pay no mind to this comment and enjoy your stay.

    ::: spoiler original comment

    Important

pawb.social, the instance OP is from, was sadly defederated from sh.itjust.works. This means they cannot edit this post or respond to your comments.

This is the link where it is currently being maintained: https://pawb.social/post/43513

    ## Author's message on his Greasyfork extension:

(In this case, SJW means shit.just.works)

Strange times we live in. My instance (pawb.social) has defederated from sh.itjust.works due to their open signup/spambot/trolling problem. This means I can’t actually manage the OP post about this userscript I made, and the link to this page is still alive and prominent for SJW users. It’s unfortunate, but I understand the rationale. I think it will just be temporary until SJW moderates their instance better. This userscript has actually been replaced by a userstyle version, which does the same thing in a cleaner way.

The version of my post that contains the updated userstyle and instructions is located here: https://pawb.social/post/43513

This is the same exact post that you probably came from, but the difference is it's hosted on pawb.social, and therefore I can edit it. My edits on pawb.social do not get pushed to SJW since we are defederated. It's sort of like being shadowbanned. In the meantime though, this 'shadowbanned' post still works as a homepage, as long as it's linked to directly on pawb.social!

Apologies for the inconvenience, we're exploring lemmy's quirks together!

  • Animal tree thing? 🌓

  • Power tripping

  • probably satire indeed

  • hmmmm idk, for me it gives me /m/ links instead of /c/ links. weird!

  • I tested it, it currently doesn't work, has a couple of bugs, doesn't work on lemmy yet.

  • it's also dark magic, "b-but it's a microwave, h-how??" "shh, it just works"

  • 2, i hadn't even thought of the first one, funny thought, thanks

  • I actually removed that match from the version I'm using so it unblurs everywhere lol. Do you think that's better?

  • LOL

  • holy fuck i know the dude, that artstyle is so like him, i didn't recognize it tho but i was gonna ask who made it cuz that shit's fire

i didn't know he's on some federation thing, tho i can't browse framapiaf, i assume it's like mastodon

    link to the art: https://framapiaf.org/@davidrevoy/110532791930270318

i love david revoy, i think i learned most of my first steps in digital art from him> davidrevoy@framapiaf.org

  • same, I'm always in places like this, my e-mails are all from cock.li. I just love giving someone something like "yeah hi, e-mail me the job offer to jaimie@national.shitposting.agency". And together with being a bit annoyed at the inefficiency of other lemmy instances and how much they focused on which political party and ideology they should follow, this one was a breath of fresh air :)

PS. I still find it to be the best working instance out of all that I have tried. The big ones are slow, the small ones have wrong setups and are buggy, this one is just perfect šŸ’Æ

    God's stamp of approval

  • When I joined this one was one of the smaller ones lol. This instance has been alive for like 6 days.

  • shitlmao hahahhah

  • I don’t think there are fully distributed social networks out there today. Even nostr, a Twitter alternative with a basis in blockchain, has the issue that if a ā€œrelayā€ you used to post content goes down, that post disappears. The problem is that all of that data needs to be kept somewhere, and there’s a lot of content to keep.

That's exactly how Hive works by the way, each witness has a copy of the blockchain software, and to run a node and earn money from it, they must "sync" the blockchain and that means running all the blocks software to reproduce all blocks one by one. This process can take hours or days to finish. But afterwards, any node or group of nodes can die and as long as one witness node exists for every microservice (main chain, hive engine side chain for tokens, some metadata chain and there's a few other things ppl have invented idk what for), all data is safe. So as you say, it's expensive and a bit crazy to require everyone to host all the content available but when done it gives some safety to your data.

Hive is not federated tho. It's one thing, just hosted by many with 100% redundance.

Your best bet to protect your account is to self-host.

I was thinking of doing that, setting up my own server, but for some reason all the communities on the server I'm on (sh.itjust.works) are very small and the ones on lemmy.ml grow a lot, so it makes me think that it's much harder for people to find communities hosted on smaller servers than on big ones? Maybe I'm misreading the reasons.> Your best bet to protect your account is to self-host.

  • ehhh I don't use firefox tho I use Kiwi Browser with dark reader extension. It works very very fast.

I would use firefox but firefox is kinda slow on my phone and I dislike slow.

  • I just use a dark reader extension on the browser.

  • I use windows because that's where I can play overwatch and fortnite. That's literally the only reason. And photoshop, but krita is almost just as good. If I didn't play games not available on Linux I'd probably use Ubuntu instead. Why? Easy to install, very customizable, better for programming, scriptable.
