Texas has TMDSAS, which makes anyone who is a resident of Texas automatically a sour grape for the national AMCAS system. Essentially, if you are from Texas, your chances of getting in out of state is pretty much nil unless you are the top 99%.
Leaving Texas is not a small feat. And I already knew Texas was falling into a deeper rabbit hole of conservatism, but you talk as if it's so easy for myself or my colleagues to leave.
Believe me, if it were that simple, many of us would have done it. Many out of state schools won't even look at Texas applicants because of the TMDSAS protectionist policies. It feels like you are generalizing your anecdotal experience to the broader whole, and that's just not realistic.
I go to medical school in Texas. I can confirm the braindrain is fairly frightening to everyone in academics, medicine, and research here. MD/PhDs are the ones impacted most at my institution.
I fucking hate this state. I didn't used to, but it's pretty clear the state is highly corrupt.
a lot of my professors in psychiatry can't explicitly let their political leanings be known, but they have STRONGLY hinted that they are pissed off by the weaponization of mental health for political ends.
Actively speaking out and disagreeing with your institution's official view point of "silence/neutrality" is pretty much grounds for termination, Tenure or no Tenure.
BRO, what an opinion. Love how out of touch and sarcastic you are. Really adds to the "I am not aware of the damage tech billionaires are vomiting out into society" vibe.
"savage polling", when has he ever given a shit about media coverage or public opinion. It hasn't stopped him at all.
