  • You definitely should try something with an actual desktop. It sounds like you're wanting a headed server with virtualization capabilities. I'd personally run LXD or KVM and LXC if I needed a type 2 hypervisor and containers like what you're saying. Luckily, a ton of distros support both of these at this point.

Btw, proxmox utilizes KVM and LXC on the backend. So the only difference is that you're leveraging the tools directly. If you're a CS student then learning the underlying tools is the best way to learn about a system and how it all interacts.

  • I used to run that years ago and what I remembered was that it was a handful to maintain with updates when I used to run it on windows. It could be completely different now, so don't let my past experience hold you back from trying it out.

  • Did you read the documents? It's not as bad as what you're saying.

It looks like the prohibited acts (section 6) specifically mention for commercial purposes where attribution markers are separated from the content. So, commercial AI software that doesn't retain these markers or copyright marker removal done to mislead or affect in a commercial way would be against the law in 2 years.

I don't see how this affects anything open source related. The way I understand it is that this will just force commercial applications to adapt to this and move on.

  • Here's the problem: we're watching the country errode in incredible time, the far right has sunk it's claws into the government and it seemingly has no way to actually prevent it's damage. All of the checks and balances seem to mean nothing as actual laws that people relied on are being repealed every month. And this might not be the worst of it, if Trump gets elected with a Senate majority, everything will probably flip seemingly overnight.

All we can do is vote and call representatives to tell them to support us. You could probably protest too but be careful out there. If you're someone that might be targeted by an auth right regime, you might want to get your passport ready.

  • I'd agree with you, except that we're in the dark timeline where the DNC has burned us hard by making dumb electoral decisions. We're basically given another chance at 2016 where we have a democratic shoehorn vs a narcissistic authoritarian. I'm actually getting to the point where I regret not voting for Hilary because of how much of a shit show those years were.

So, yes, I'd love to vote for someone else, preferably like Bernie, but it's far too late to recampaign. Especially since it's less than 5 months prior to actual elections. Given what was accomplished these past 4 years, I'd actually be okay with Biden if he would meaningfully do something to help Palestine.

  • I think what everyone needs to realize is that it's already too late. It's been too late and it was too late months ago. There are no other options. The world will suck but will most definitely suck less than one being led by Trump. You have two effective choices, vote Biden or don't. It's unfortunately all we have at this point.

  • I used to love Vivaldi, but eventually it being a chromium browser forced me to switch back to Firefox and it's children. If they switched over to using Firefox as a base rather than chromium then I'd consider it.
