  • I agree that ecologically it can be a better move but I also don't blame anyone that chooses to have a child because who knows when politicians may revoke your ability to decide in the future.

The real problem is that our current way of life is a sinking ship and we're close to the tipping point when the majority of people will need to find methods of living alternatively. Teaching younger people how to survive in this environment is going to be crucial. A lot will suffer through our collective ignorance until we find a new equilibrium with nature. We can adapt quickly and support climate positive actions or we can prolong it; I think we all know the current direction we're going. Either way, until either the global ecological demand subsides, we're just preparing future generations for an uphill battle.

  • I think it's less on ceding metaphorical ground and more on getting people caught up that haven't decoupled the "Jewish people are automatically Zionist" thought yet. The opposition is taking advantage of that preconceived notion that a lot of people have.

  • Do you mean the actual philosophy of truth or do you just mean that we currently have a cult of personality spewing lies and people en masse accept it as truth?

Because I've heard arguments for both.

  • We're clearly not from the same countries, but I think this discussion stems from the recent political actions in the USA. In that instance, yes birthright citizenship is the most common method of citizenship and would have severe consequences by changing the law arbitrarily.

  • The world's a fucked up place, and birthright citizenship probably isn't the best way to go about things (neither are borders in general but that's a tangent), but I don't think removing rights before a better implementation is in place is the best way to go about things. More people get hurt this way, obviously, and we lose sight of what the actual point of this was. Not to mention it's easy for fascism to take root when you can more easily say who gets to be a citizen.

  • It does a few techniques depending on the type of network and security obstacles. They posted an article on it that's interesting.

I'd also check out pangolin or headscale like others recommeded though since you're already looking to self-host.

  • Its because they genuinely do not care about anyone but themselves.

If someone was layed off, that's too bad, find another job slacker. Someone ran over by a car, they shouldn't have been in the way. Someone shot, that's a bad neighborhood. Someone shot by police? They should've followed orders better.

They do not comprehend that there is more to things than just cause and effect because of the doublethink that has eroded away their critical thinking skills.

  • Not to dissuade anyone from thinking that California is a much better state than Alabama; but those rankings are terrible. Florida ranked #2 best state in education, #1 in economy, and #13th in crime? Yeah, that's not biased at all USNews.

  • Kids do dumb things and hopefully learn from their mistakes but I dont think actively planning to shoot up a school is one of those things you can argue as innocuous.

The article doesn't say whether he originally had these thoughts or if it was pressed onto him by his mother. It definitely sounds like he was at the very least encouraged to do extreme violence by his mother and he said himself that he looked up to other shooters and thought he would be famous.

The kid needs some mental health counseling at the very least in my opinion.

  • Honestly, ever since this execution, I've been against any death penalty. There have been way too many innocent people killed from the death penalty.

Not to mention the numerous issues and the moral quandry of legal murder as a state sanctioned form of punishment.

At the end of the day, what's the ultimate goal of murdering someone on death row? An example for deterrence? Apparently it's not effective any more than a life sentence and you don't have the risk of killing someone who was innocent.

  • You're right, they aren't perfect but they are better than meat in most cases. If a plants based meat alternative is what it takes for someone to reduce or stop their meat intake then that's a moral improvement in my book.

  • The article isn't about the new animation but about how the old clip has resurfaced and is retreading its origin and how it relates to recent events.

Now coming back to Miyazaki’s thoughts on AI, a widely shared video from 2016 shows the legendary animator reacting with disgust to an AI-generated animation demo.

The animation in the clip reminded him about his friend's disability and how the creators of the animation didn't regard ableism while making it. Later in the clip, one of the creators had expressed that they would like to create a machine that could "draw pictures as humans do" and Miyazaki was depicted as displeased after this statement.

The article doesn't go into if there were any comments from Miyazaki on the Ghibli-style image.
