  • I read some of it but couldn't stomach much more. The amount of thinly veiled racism was not the vibe for me. Also, I grew up in BC and am in the "young Canadian" age and we were most definitely taught Canadian history and the concept of manifest destiny. Guy just seems mad that they're teaching the ugly parts of Canadian history now too.

There's definitely an issue of how so many young Canadians are favouring fascist bullshit, but this ain't it.

  • Did you know that Maslow's hierarchy of needs was actually based off of the Blackfoot indigenous culture, but he essentially flipped the 'pyramid' on its head? Originally, it was meant to be more of a cyclical view (where you take care of society, society takes care of you, all needs are met). He was actually very inspired by this view, but unfortunately adapted it to fit more into the individualist views of the colonizers that continue to exist in most of the western world today. He also never actually put his theories into the pyramid shape we know them to be.

Really interesting to read up on, if you're into that sort of thing. There's a few different articles on it, but I thought this one explained it pretty well.

  • The 90s is back and has brought them back, but like extra. I saw someone walking around where literally their entire leg from thigh to calf was exposed. Looked really uncomfortable tbh.

  • Just copying it into here cause I'm getting tired of the comments:

"A surprise attack involving the deliberate use of violence against civilians in the hope of attaining political or religious aims. "

As far as we and the police know, there was no political or religious agenda here. Again, as far as they know, this was not a planned attack. This is fucked up and really fucking heartbreaking situation but it is not, by definition, a terrorist attack.

  • Charges have been laid now

I'm unclear on why only 8 murders when 11 were killed, but I imagine there's some legal stuff going on there.

What happened is fucked up and very likely could've been prevented if we had better mental health supports in BC.

This is obviously a really sad and fucked up situation but I feel like this post is unnecessarily inflammatory.

  • The funniest part to me about all of this is that Nanaimo's not even the nicest city on the island. I mean, most of the island is gorgeous because BC, but there are so many other places they could've visited.

Tod Maffin is an awesome journalist though and this legit seems like a very wholesome thing to have happened (and I'm sure great for local businesses).

  • Put scratching posts (both vertical and flat) near the areas where they are doing this. Redirect when you see them doing it in the wrong spots, and you can get sprays to make certain areas more/less attractive for scratching. They also might want more play time. Scratching is normal cat behaviour but there are ways to give them healthy ways to practice it.

  • Oh this is wild to me too. I work IT support and we recently started swapping everyone to W11, and as soon as I upgraded mine I turned off all their ads, news/weather popups, Bing search garbage. When I ask people if they want help to get rid of it they're like "nah I'll just live with it" as if it wasn't the most distracting thing in the gd world.
