  • It feels like it does a mixture of everything all at once and they just end up being not very great at all of them

  • It definitely uses a lot less resources with rust. The idea of using PHP for a decentralized piece of software gives me a cold chill

  • Private message is a thing, but whatever works for you is fine with me! Private relay email works as well <3

  • I have an invite I can give if you want. It's not my vibe and prefer mastodon, but hey to each their own.

  • Man, that is really upsetting. I truly hope Aaron found peace. זכרונו לברכה

  • I think mine will last for quite a while. Lemmy hogs so little resources, so long as I have my VPS it'll be up and running. Object storage is a potential in the future, but I am hopeful lemmy optimizes its image databasing as well. I am hopeful as lemmy grows my instance will grow as well as I feel there is a demand for a book/writing focused instance, but we will see. I'm gonna be here regardless.

  • I'm so glad it got fixed. It has a nice mix of content.

  • The newest update fixed quite a lot of the "hot" algorithm glitchiness.

  • I hope that manufacturers don’t try to skirt around the EU rule in some shitty way :/

  • I agree. I became an adult during the pandemic, and the way mental health is approached towards children and teenagers is really really bad and has only gotten worse these past few years.

  • A big issue with Lemmy right now is how picture storage works. All photos are cached as they enter the instance and there isn’t much to do to turn it off. It’s ridiculous, especially for server scaling. The database in of itself is small, it’s really the pictures that are an issue and grow rapidly.

  • I don’t think people really realize just badly the pandemic affected peoples mental health and how that impact hasn’t really decreased much at all

  • From what I can recall, you aren't missing much. The power hungry admins are intense there.

  • So… their gonna just level up their normal business model then? Churn out an endless stream of garbage in hopes something sticks then cancel it or ruin it when it somehow does stick?

  • What nefarious activities are these hooligans up to?

  • Might work. Like a lemmy admin coordination hub instance? On mastodon there is "fediblock," which is what you're describing.

I do know that there is lemmyadmin.site currently, but it's not extremely active as far as I can tell.
