Can it be done? Yes. But compared to Mac OS it’s an awful experience. Thankfully the machine predates the massive trackpad and Touch Bar. But leave the Mac running Mac OS, it’s a far better experience than the half baked Linux support.

And who knows, maybe you’ll like it? It converted me.

It’s a hardware issue not a software issue. If your laptop can run its webcam and not have the light turn on then it’s bad hardware. Software might get around one exploit, but that doesn’t fix what’s a hardware issue.

I’ve had maybe 1 scam call in 5 year after turning on tmobiles blocking feature. Check with your carrier if they offer such a thing.

You can find really good deals on used ram, mobo, CPU combos so I’d suggest going for them. Mobo accessories are sparse these days. Io plates are built in, sata isn’t used much anymore, and that’s all you’d ever really get. Maybe the M.2 screws will be missing but they’re a standard size.

Plus if it comes as one unit then you don’t have to worry about your new CPU not being compatible with the old mobo and needing a donor CPU to flash the new bios.

It’s not even machine specific. UEFI vs legacy bios boot mode is universally supported in all but the latest systems. If OP had to switch to legacy boot mode then they probably made the USB “incorrectly”. You’d run into the same issue on windows if you made the USB boot drive for legacy bios mode.

Zip tie an aux and USB cable together.

Ironically I’m one of the only people at work with a PC. But most of the people who have an M* pro/max are our developers. They mostly live in windows land through a VM and their workload isn’t too intensive. It their machines barely get warm to the touch vs the 2019 MBPs they had before.

Usually if you buy a really fancy charger it can do it in the charger side of things, but I’m not sure if that’s trickled down to low end chargers. Also as an end game for renewable energy charging can happen when there’s excess power available, and stop charging when there’s a deficit.

All of the Apple silicon Mac’s are so efficient I wouldn’t worry about heat unless it’s the M3 max and you plan on fully loading the system at all times.

At work we have an army of M* machines and the 14 and 16” ones have no issues staying cool and performing well at all times.

This is the life of all early adopters. Being an early adopter you should know that end of life will come soon, and be painful, because they haven’t figured out how to end this nicely.

You can, buy a Ford GT350 or GT500. Both I believe offered radio deletes.

I mean murder is bad. Telling people that murder is bad is a good thing. But too much more beyond that is well into dictator range.

I like htop because it has nice CPU graphs and a good tui for navigating. Top is a bit too obtuse for a new user, especially since CPU time is measured per core and not per the entire CPU. Plus I never figured out how turbo boost plays a roll in those percents.

I haven’t gotten around to messing with btop, but it seems like more of what I like.

Also fuck the “muh bloat” people. I have an i9 and 32 gigs of ram. I don’t care that a monitor util takes 1/10th of a second longer to launch and uses 1MB more of ram.

With the Mac mini OP could just get the iPad and do almost everything there. And when you really need a real PC remote into the Mac mini.

Android studio has that.

But android studio sucks. Also it’s just a KVM VM so you can just make your own and save the like 20 gigs of bloat.
