  • AMDs 7000 series APUS (and Z1) aren't efficient enough, no performant enough to really warrant a real upgrade if valve is going for a console like experience.

Sure you can get 10% more performance at the same power level, but why bother? Valve had to custom design their own APU to hit their power goals, and there's no way chasing that yearly 0-10% gains is going to pay off.

  • The oled is also 90hz instead of 60. So if they target the oled they're probably going to target 90hz too. The older 60hz steam deck users would be at an advantage (assuming fps is capped) since it only needs to consistently pump out 2/3 the FPS.

The CPU and GPU are rated for the same speed, but I'm sure the 6nm CPU + better cooling will eek out 0.1% better performance.

    6 nm AMD APU

    CPU: Zen 2 4c/8t, 2.4-3.5GHz (up to 448 GFlops FP32)

    GPU: 8 RDNA 2 CUs, 1.6GHz (1.6 TFlops FP32)

    7 nm AMD APU

    CPU: Zen 2 4c/8t, 2.4-3.5GHz (up to 448 GFlops FP32)

    GPU: 8 RDNA 2 CUs, 1.0-1.6GHz (up to 1.6 TFlops FP32)

  • Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak was hospitalized in Mexico City on Wednesday, a source from the organizers of the World Business Forum (WBF), an event he attended in the country’s capital, told CNN En Español.

You'd have to click the article to see what event. But he was at an event in mexico city. They're not going to tell you every single detail in the 2 sentence preview

  • The article specifically mentions this which implies that it's stored on the car.

Berla’s software makes it impossible for vehicle owners to access their communications and call logs but does provide law enforcement with access

But it's immediately followed up with

Many car manufacturers are selling car owners’ data to advertisers as a revenue boosting tactic

Pretty much all new cars being sold today, most cars in the last 5 years, and a large percentage of cars sold in the last 10 all have some sort of cellular modem that reports back to home base with all sorts of info, then they turn around and sell it. GM has been doing this for 20+ years at this point with on star which is included in almost every car they've made.

  • Keep in mind this is with up to an 80 watt TDP vs an effectively 3 year old architecture in a select few tests. The M2 was basically just an overclocked M1, with the Pro/Max models getting 2 extra cores. This is qualcomms best case scenario.

  • I'd expect them to start around 1k. Not many people are going to be buying these devices so there's no economies of scale.

Also I love how qualcomm announced this CPU and a day later Apple releases the M3 which is finally a real upgrade from the M1.

  • While actual power consumption won't be much apparent power (VA) will be a measurable amount. If you're connected to a UPS and it's not a super modern server then it's apparent power will be a decent amount. As a normal end user you don't pay for this, but if you're trying to spec out a UPS you'd want to calculate it and factor it in.

The FX 8350 isn't a very power efficient CPU, but two E5645 in a server is going to use a lot more power at idle (and load) than the FX. Servers actually have pretty manageable power usage, but idle consumption of a dual CPU system will always be more than a single CPU system.

  • Intended doesn't mean that they are. The left side is definitely better than the right, and they get really high CPU usage when charging/using their monitor with their right side USB ports instead of the left.
