  • I've shifted towards using Obtainium for most of my open source apps and get them straight from the repo release page. I didn't have any real problem with F-Droid, it's just really slow to release updates since they build everything themselves (which is cool, but again, slow).

  • Depends. If there's no server-side logic, you can host it on GitHub for free.

  • Oh, wild, I never encountered that, and I have automatic updates enabled. Windows is fucking weird sometimes.

  • I've only had Explorer Patcher break when Windows updates, but you just have to update or reinstall it. At least, that's been the case for me on 3 systems.

  • Depends on the state. For example, Texas does, but its neighbor Arkansas does not (only required a back plate, last I checked).

  • I've done Windows software development professionally for over 15 years, I promise you, Windows is a tech nightmare by default. Literally the only thing I do with my own copy of Windows is play games, and I still have to reformat the piece of shit every 8-12 months.

  • Holy shit, a Metallica meme! Didn't expect that today, what a nice surprise.

  • Are you saying Windows is more flexible than Linux? Or vice versa?

  • The only real difference between Windows and Linux is that the first starts out as a tech nightmare and the second ends up that way. I use both regularly for both work and play, I've seen the good, bad, and ugly of both.

  • Signups are open on my instance up to 100ish users. I run scripts to auto-federate popular content, so it's pretty bumping.

  • I advertised my instance in a different thread. It's been almost exclusively a single-user instance, and I use both LCS and Lemmony to federate popular content. I've been exceedingly happy with it and don't plan on going anywhere, so I figured I could handle a few extra users.

    So if your criteria include:

    • High uptime
    • Federation with popular content
    • Sensible rules

... feel free to check my instance out. Do note that so far, I've only defederated from exploding-heads (right-wing trolls) and threads (preemptively, of course).

I'll probably cap registrations at 100 users or so, just to make sure my systems can handle the load, then see where things stand.

  • I'm not a lawyer, but that sounds like classic "constructive dismissal", which qualifies for unemployment in most states. Of course, you'd have to fight for it, which as a college student, would've probably been too expensive and time-consuming. Sorry about the shit boss.

  • Join mine! I run several tools in order to federate with the most popular content automatically. I'm keeping user count limited, but sign ups are open at the moment.

  • Agreed. I appreciate the bot a lot, don't get me wrong, but it can add clutter, for sure. I kind of wish there was a Lemmy-wide setting to auto-collapse bot comments, now.

  • It's a lemmy issue, same thing happens in the web UI, as well.
