That's why I have zero tolerance for the idea that we should just be able to disagree politely about politics and still be friends afterward. Sure, if the disagreement is about how much of a city's budget should go toward parks vs. street maintenance or something, but when "some people aren't really people because they're from another country" is the politics, that's gonna be a hard no for me. Trump supporters contribute nothing positive to politics (and probably not much to the world, considering how they view it) and I'm not interested in some fake ass "dialogue."
I am considered radical in this country (and probably pretty moderate in a lot of Europe) but even if I was the most milquetoast centrist, I think I'd still find that terrible. It's amazing that he can still surprise me with what a piece of shit he is.
11 - 5 were summer/college jobs when I was a kid, and I've had a couple of promotions, so I've only had 4 employers/6 jobs in the last 18 years since my first "real" job. I've stayed at most of my employers way longer than a lot of people my age (39), though, so I think it would be reasonable to have had more. It might've been better for my salary to have more. I just really, really hate job hunting and I've been fortunate to mostly enjoy what I do.
For younger people, I don't see job hopping as being super problematic, though I know a lot of people in charge of hiring do. If you've hit 30 and haven't managed at least a couple years at one place, that's probably not a good sign, but people should try different stuff (and get more money). We spend too much time at work to be miserable.
Giraffes are my favorite animals. I have a zoo membership at least 50% because it means I can just go hang out by the giraffe habitat and watch them for a while, so I'm basically an expert and can say that this baby is perfect and amazing and I would die for it.
They're cross-contaminating a lot then - they gave a CBC reporter breed results, too. Either that or they don't even test and just pull results out of their asses.
Yeah she already came in 5th in a straw poll after a debate in January and 3rd in one a few days ago. Those aren't the most scientific polls, but the response to her changing districts wasn't positive, and she's not getting much positive coverage locally. I can't imagine her being the eventual candidate, regardless of what Ken Buck does.
The original comment said, "Cheaper suburbs are still very much affordable in every city I have seen." Denver is a city. Pretty sure if anyone looks foolish, it's the person who couldn't apply context to my reply...
Try looking in CO. The only house within 30 min of my job under $300k that isn't a trailer or a tiny condo in this one old shithole building says, "everything needs to be repaired including structural repairs" in the listing. Trailers are still pretty much rentals and lot rent is outrageous ($800-1200 at basically every park that isn't located directly on a hellmouth). Oh wait, I could go 90 min out and get a sweet deal of just $220k on a house that's basically just a rotting outside and interior framing and insulation. What a great opportunity!
Uh pass. Who the fuck can afford that? If I were going to live to 100, I'd have to work until I was about 90. And with climate change, I seriously doubt I want to be around in 60 years.
We actually have a non-profit where I live that grows and then puts together sets of native plants that will cover a certain amount of space and all grow in the same light/shade. We used their boxes, so less luck with the mint and more that we sought out plants like that. We also have some tall grasses, coneflowers, penstemon, about one million ice plants, and some others I can't remember.
I don't know if other states have similar orgs, but it's a really great way to make native/pollinator-friendly gardens accessible to novices. All I had to do was plant them and weed them.
Eh, maybe, but native plants tend to be a way better option for new gardeners because they grow so much better. My mom and I tore out all the grass in our front yard and put in native plants and they're the first plants I didn't manage to immediately kill. If I'd tried roses, they probably would've died and I'd have given up. Instead, I have catmint thriving maybe a little too much and it's full of bees!
Even in the US, which consumes a pretty unhealthy amount of meat per capita, you can see that impact somewhat. Vegan options are still iffy compared to vegetarian ones, but there are definitely more places I can eat now than ever. The suburbs aren't nearly as good as cities, but that's to be expected, I think. Even compared to a few years ago, it's better - it's not just a sad plate of lettuce with no dressing or dry pasta.
I won't say that people's meat consumption is down here because data doesn't back that up, but at least those of us who don't eat it are finally getting a few choices.
That speech was like an alien who had studied humans but still hadn't quite grasped why we make certain expressions and when. The smiling was so off-putting.
I've never installed windows either. 🙂 I picked all the parts for my current computer, but I paid a guy to do the assembly because I wasn't confident in my ability, so he did all that. My ex husband did it on the previous build, and everything prior was a pre-built.
