  • I work in municipal government and we have the busiest ballot box in the county outside my office, and I can vouch that old people fucking love to vote. All day long on election day and the days leading up to it, it's a line of people, many of whom who probably shouldn't be driving, waiting to drop off their ballot. They take it super seriously. I wish everybody was as hyped to vote as the elderly.

  • Do other places with mail in voting not have ballot drop boxes? I live in CO and a lot of people don't even put their ballots in the mail because there are boxes at a lot of public buildings that are picked up directly by the county every day (or more often). Then again, we actually want people to vote and I know that's not the case in plenty of states.

  • The timing is what made me lean toward a zionist, since it comes directly on the heels of him telling Netanyahu to quit murdering innocent people. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a MAGAt, but I haven't seen anything outside of what he normally does that would've particularly triggered one of them.

  • Considering that he got shot in the arm, not the face, my real life response would probably be, "really, man? You didn't think you should give this to someone else before ems got there?" That's why I'm not a doctor. Because I'm pretty dumb and bad at hiding my reactions. Also the part with all the blood.

  • No it's true. Bill Gates gave me $50, or put a chip in my COVID vaccine, or something and told me not to have kids and I was like, "oh, yeah cool." Don't pay any attention to the many, many gay and lesbian couples who have children, and the many straight couples that don't. Me and Kanye know the real truth.

Seriously though, I wish that man would stay on his meds. I feel bad for his kids. They deserve a dad who's stable and not super into Hitler.

  • It's worse. They actually didn't require any consent for pelvic exams before. They could just have med students in there watching and not even tell you about it. So if you've ever had surgery in a teaching hospital, it's totally possible you had a bunch of interns gawking at your undercarriage without knowing it. Fuckin horrific, right?

  • I need to check on whether I get a discount for paying all at once. I'm finally at a point where I could manage it but I have no idea what it would save.

Ooh, just checked looked and nope, USAA gives me $16/month off for autopay but no pay in full discount. Lots of pretend discounts for other stuff but that just puts them around what other insurers would charge anyway. What a rip off.

  • Where on earth are you getting insurance for 2 cars for $500/6 months? I'm middle aged, drive a 10 year old car, and have a perfect driving record, and mine's about $100/month. I've priced the same level of coverage with other companies and that's pretty much what all of them offered.

Eta: I'm literally asking. I have no loyalty to my current company, if I can get it cheaper, I'm out.

  • Are you kidding? You've never heard anyone say, "that was the worst," and mean that it sucked, not that it was the literal worst thing they've ever experienced? I can honestly say no one has ever taken that phrase that literally before, and it's kind of fascinating to see someone who doesn't appear to understand how human speech works, but is so confident about it anyway. I bet people in real life find that really fun.

  • Do you know what an emergency landing does? It means there are now hundreds of people stuck in an airport they're not supposed to be in, so airline staff then have to try to find spots for them on other flights that are often full, if not overbooked, which causes a domino effect that can last days. It means people miss connections, so they have to figure those out, too. The flight I was on, someone missed their kid's wedding because it took so long to get them to their destination. It made airport staff's next 24 hours hell. Oh, and the woman who caused it lost her job and had to pay tens of thousands in fines because it's taken that seriously. It's not just, "oopsie, well let's get a different plane and reboard all the same people."

It's not dramatic to say that emergency landings suck, and everyone should want to avoid them. And if Boeing planes are having that many issues, that's a problem. Guarantee you that the airline doesn't think it's ok, nor do any of the people on that flight.

  • That's all well and good, but emergency landings for any reason are the worst. At best, it's a huge inconvenience. I had one a few years back because a passenger was acting like an asshole, and it cost a full day of my limited vacation, so I'd really rather not have one even if the plane is safe enough for them to land.

  • Yeah dude, if I have anything they can use. It's not like I'll be using them anymore, and I have a couple of friends who've gotten donor organs, so I've seen firsthand how it impacts people. I tried to be a kidney donor for another friend but it turns out I don't have enough extra function that they thought I could give one away. I'm fine, my kidneys are just not going above and beyond, I guess.
