I tried to swipe some word earlier and it decided what really wanted to say was ConocoPhillips. Why the fuck is that even in the dictionary in my phone? When would I ever want to say that?

I really don't, at least not because of any strong moral convictions. I believe he cared a lot about abortion as a means to an end, though.

I don't actually think he cares at all, at least not personally. I think he sees it as an effective way to divide the American public and win political points depending on what he does and when, but I would be shocked if he had genuine moral opposition. Because that would require him to have genuine moral stances, and I think his only strong feelings in his entire life have been about getting and holding on to power.

I'm starting a job search today and dreading it. There are only like 5 positions open right now that fit with my skills and also pay even close to a livable amount of money, so that's not great. Deceased sounds like a great opportunity at this point - no commute and you don't need a living wage if you're not living.

The raw milk people are wild to me, because raw milk is disgusting even without the bird flu, and they're so committed to it. The more people point out that it's gross and unsafe, the more they want it. Drinking pus to own the libs, I guess?

My dog is like that. She lays in my spot in the bed until I'm ready to get in, and then I tell her "scooch" and she moves to her spot. When we cuddle in the morning, she knows that, "ok/alright," means it's time to get up and go pee.

I got my dog one because she loved being covered by blankets, and she did the same thing. And then insisted on having a blanket over her anyway. On the plus side, she loved the bed in her own way.

Oh I cry reading stuff all the time. I read a lot of historical queer fiction because I'm a masochist, and then I cry because it was so unfair.

Kind of. TSA Precheck is <$100 for 5 years, so it's significantly cheaper. That amount is a lot more accessible to average travelers than CLEAR.

Most people really need to stop getting their hearts set on a specific breed when adopting. I constantly see posts of people rehoming dogs because they can't keep up with them or meet their needs. Like, yeah, maybe instead of adopting a 1 year old Aussie, you should've gotten a 5 year old chihuahua if you're not the kind of person who runs and does agility and shit.

Also, I had a labradoodle who was rescued (as a 7 year old) from a puppy mill, which is where pretty much all doodles come from now. He shed like a motherfucker, was absolutely not hypoallergenic, and cost a ton of time and money in grooming bills. He was also the single most anxious dog I've ever had. We adored him but they're not some magical perfect breed. (We didn't seek one out, my parents just fell in love when I was fostering him.)

I'm from CO and dating here is terrible. It wasn't so bad in my 20s, but doing it in my 30s has been almost entirely shit to the point that I've given up, and so have a lot of other people. I love the state, don't get me wrong, but it's expensive and the single men seem to have formed some kind of mediocrity pact. The last woman I dated went from witchy pagan to hijab-wearing Muslim convert for a man she'd met in person once, so I haven't had better luck on the queer scene either.

That said, joining queer spaces wherever you end up is a good way to dip your toes in the water without feeling the pressure that an explicitly dating-oriented site/activity might cause. Join clubs, go to bars, whatever. If you meet someone that way, it'll likely feel a lot more natural.

Yuuup. I wanted a hysterectomy. Was told no because my insurance doesn't cover "elective" hysterectomies. Ok, but it's not really elective, my periods have become increasingly debilitating and birth control isn't managing it. Nope, sorry, missing work regularly because of symptoms is totally normal and women just have to deal with it. I ended up getting a bilateral salpingectomy (which is covered electively) because I wanted to make sure pregnancy was really off the table, and they found fibroids. A year and a half later, it's gotten bad enough that now the stupid hysterectomy is no longer considered elective.

So now my insurance is going to pay for TWO surgeries instead of just the one I originally wanted because some dumbass bean counter decided that's how it should work. Super cost effective. And I really love having to recover from multiple surgeries, it was really fun the first time, so I can't wait for a second, worse time. But hey, we can't possibly trust doctors and patients to know what's going on more that someone who has never and will never meet either of them!

Same. It's unbelievably frustrating that there are so many people who don't care until it impacts their lives, but there are also plenty of trans kids who end up closeted, homeless, or dead because their families won't change no matter what. I'll take this guy supporting his kid over that any day. I want people to know that changing their mind is good and welcome. Hopefully that'll make it more likely and more kids will be safe.

I'm vegan, so lots of stuff. Even things like tofu can be difficult to find, depending on where you are, and anything more niche than that is basically impossible.

I mean, you can, but most people who prioritize those things aren't going to want to make a multiple hour drive to get there. It sounds like they're not your priority in the way I meant if nature is the more important thing. For me, I enjoy nature, but it's more important that I can get the groceries I want (which are very hard to find outside of bigger cities), or go to the zoo for a couple of hours without having to plan it a week in advance.

How much do you value access to restaurants, lots of stores, and the sort of activities that are usually found closer to cities (like museums and concerts)? For some, the answer is not much, so buying a house away from those things is great. Other people would be miserable.

I've never been but I've heard good things about most of it. And I'm a middle aged woman, so sure!
