  • Personally I think the immutability is amazing precisely because it lets me tinker. Being able to layer packages and roll back if it’s not happy finally lets me try out different development setups

The way I see it, an os is just a set of fixed versions. I might as well treat it like a git checked requirements.txt or package.lock.json

Nix is also nice for that but that’s just a straight up config file nothing else.

Bazzite at least comes with preloaded options and wizards to choose other things

  • Honestly, my opinion as someone of Indian descent is the only people that really care about “reclaiming aryan heritage” from nazis are hindutva “Brahmin piety” type people

I consider myself Indian, not Aryan

That’s just my opinion, I don’t claim to represent all indo Iranians but like honestly in my opinion the nazis can keep the aryan name

“Real” Aryans aren’t even worth being proud of anyways, the Aryans were primarily known for using chariot warfare to subjugate the Indian subcontinent and then spent centuries enforcing and enacting the horrific caste systems.

Nazis can keep the Aryan culture personally I don’t need it anyways

    • my own opinions ofc

Ethno nationalism is bad, whether it’s nazi Aryanism or Hindutva Aryanism

  • Biden Harris and the DNC is actually a facist “controlled opposition” party. The absolute lockstep they move with Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin is textbook entanglement of military corporate hegemonic facism. I have zero problems calling the RNC the nu Nazi party and the DNC as the “polite” nazi party. Lowkey I feel like we need a new “anti-monopoly” political party if anything good is gonna happen in the next 30 years

  • Increasing police funding consistently while not doing the same at the same rate for fire health and emergency services is in fact defunding the fire department.

When cop salaries and equipment are always priority #1, the police are in fact defunding US

  • I really feel like rather ridiculous is an understatement

    1. Not everyone has the latest IPhones
    2. Not everyone knows someone with the latest iPhones
    3. Not everyone lives near an Apple Store.
    4. Apple makes it possible to lockdown privacy, a SteamVR user ( you need steam base stations for bigscreen beyond to work) is more than likely going to be sophisticated to know and use the IOS privacy settings.

They literally have a product build on the most open source software stack in modern times built up by a company, and to get started on the product onboarding you need to use the most closed source software stack by the most draconian company in possibly the most locked down tech store where they are unfriendly towards strange apps and processes. While also ignoring the whole issue of logging in info on strange devices.

They have no idea about product market vibes and honestly this gives me no confidence their fucking pancake lens glasses are even worth the “customized sculpted face pad”

The fact they never saw that everything in this process is garbage on fire screams a terrible product vision and frankly, the opposite of what Valve envisioned people would do with SteamVR

  • Games @sh.itjust.works

    BigScreen VR is absolute trash

    Gaming @lemmy.ml

    BigScreen VR is complete trash

  • I really am curious if anyone could demonstrate a link to the amount of access to compute and network bandwidth as a child ages, and the incidence of anxiety, social, or mood disorders.

One of the things I feel really thankful for is that the available compute and network I had access to grew up with me essentially, allowing me to generally see the harms of full scale manipulating social algorithms and avoid them.

I feel like my mental health has been greatly benefitted by staying away from such platforms.

  • Controversial opinion:

In the future we are going to look back on seeing children use iPads that directly connect them to the most sophisticated engagement and manipulation algorithms ever as something as horrid as a child smoking a cigarette, or doing any other drug

Now obviously this is an issue, but many of the suggested solutions are lacking.

Remember: the phones in our pocket are turing complete, any software solution can be undone by another software solution

Hardware flaws baked into chipsets will be inevitably exploited by the worst of humanity

What we need is a LEGAL framework to this issue

We need to see that allowing a full 5g 2.5ghZ portal to the unknown is simply absolutely harmful for a child to get there hands on without parental or educational supervision

I suspect it really should work like regulating a drug, allow more and more unsupervised compute and networking as the child ages

That way kids can still have dumb phones for basic safety and comms.

I suspect laws will be applied like alcohol within the home, to allow for family owned game systems and such

But lapses that lead to actual demonstrated harm such as mental illness leading to bodily harm or violence due to radicalization need to be treated as if a parent just fed their child alcohol without care. Or at least enabled them to it if it’s evident that they didn’t even try

Straight up it’s also a cultural shift 13-16 yr olds gaming at home under parental guidance, but not being bought significant personal compute since it would not be sold to them or for the purpose of giving to them

Usage in school where they get education on information technology and the harms and good it can do all fine and good , but seeing babies with iPads at the mall seen as badly as letting them smoke (and the secondhand smoke from all the brainrot leading to brainrotted adult)
