  • That would be great improvement to both Canada and New England/west coast however I do not see that ever happening given trigger happy authoritarian in charge would simply use that as an excuse for military occupation of said states. They’d use the same excuse as Russia did for invading crimea except they’d sort of have a point because there is no “legal” way for a state to secede by its own volition I don’t think.

  • Ahh yes the local police! An infamous bastion of web security, IT infrastructure, and thinking long term. Who could ever crack the default passwords on their IT setup? How could we ever hope to social engineer these above average intelligence elite local cops into plugging in a usb drive to their work computer. This is all definitely impossible, no local police branch has ever been a victim of ransomware so we know for sure it can’t be done and deserves all the cynicism and comparisons to Hollywood movies from the 80s.

Of course we also know that by “anonymous types” I meant that one specific group of people you have in mind who did that one thing 10 years ago and not just socially conscious programmers with basic knowledge of social engineering and web infrastructure. That would be a ridiculous thing to mean of course.

  • You watch too much tv. All you need is to degrade the quality of the recorded video on any camera exposed to the public internet enough for ai to have divergent results due to how ambiguous the images captured are. There are thousands of hobby projects that let you browse actual feeds from such cameras and usually that means you can get hardware metadata and in most cases change how the video is recorded by patching the driver running on the already publicly accessed cameras. Why make an exaggerated strawman argument while at the same time pretending you know better than everyone else?

  • That’s exactly what most junior devs do when stuck. They rehash the same solution over and over and it almost seems like that llms trained on code bases infer that behavior from commit histories etc.

It almost feels like on of those “we taught him these tasks incorrectly as a joke” scenarios

  • I know trumpers won’t ever hear about this or if they do it will be a completely twisted story and they’ll think the judge shot at the ice agents or something but the amount of mental effort it has to take to not see this as a tinpot dictator move is unbelievable. It’s hard to believe people this dumb walk among us and go to work and everything

  • I guess we could just call bankrupting anything from now on “going in the orange”. You know when you’re so far in the red your only choice is to turn into a fascist and begin killing immigrants you’re probably in the orange

  • Well the ipo brought enshitification at max speed so that’s not surprising. They ostracize and remove users who contributed to communities for a decade+ and then replace the long standing communities with a generic, Reddit controlled alternative that only reposts all time top posts to gain traction. The only thing Reddit has going for it is the user content which is rapidly getting buried under AI slop. Worst of all (for the investor class) you can’t really see Reddit being turned into another right wing cesspool to bait young men into violence with … so there really seems to be less and less reason for Reddit to exist. Let’s hope by 2030 it’s like one of those websites people say “remember when we had Reddit …”

  • That’s incredibly presumptuous. If you’re a janitorial service, or front office person from a temp agency living paycheck to paycheck it’s not a reasonable thing to do to ask them to change jobs because they’re assigned to work for the Tesla building. If we expected that of everyone nobody would ever work for insurance companies, pharma companies, big tech, oil, trucking, or literally anywhere at all. It’s not the working class’ fault that oligarchs make their Nazi supporting companies the only place that will hire you in most areas (looking at Amazon especially).

Now if you’re a middle class car salesman and you peddle swastikars to republican morons then by all means I agree. Everyone else is mostly just getting hassled for no reason. I get the sentiment but if you forget the human element you get closer to the abuser than the solution

  • The only people I feel bad for here are the minimum wage employees at the Tesla dealerships. It’s just a job and you can also do it poorly and not sell any teslas, or maybe they work for a janitor service or security. None of those folks deserve to worry about their safety because the guy at the top is ruining the country - that part has nothing to do with them

  • All absolutely valid points and my only counter argument here is that is why wagon sedans exist. Growing up in Poland a wagon was the family hauler bringing all the stuff you mentioned to pretty much anywhere you need. People even haul rvs with the wagons and you’re still smaller and relatively more pedestrian friendly. Hell they even make performance cars in wagon spec like the bmw m3. Not saying that to discredit your point just that there was another option before the suv craze came about
