  • I wonder if this is a 'disguise' to cover up just how much he's been rinsed by Putin for these things.

Aside from the TEL warheads the rest are all things the Russians are burning through and lack the adequate production of.

That railway line through the tiny NK/RUbborder must be wearing thin.

  • Jesus, that really goes to show the dominance of that car/driver combo this season.

I'm sure we've all sat through those more recent previous seasons on that list and thought they were were just as rediculously dominant, but this really puts a quash on that idea. Lewis in 2020, or the Schumacher and Vettel years were memorably insane.

I have no doubt that Max is already deserving of a place in the room of F1 greats, but it's worth remembering as well that him being at the top of this list doesn't mean he is the best. Just like Vettel having more entries on that list doesn't make him better than Hamilton, or that Schumacher is better than everyone else. It's frankly impossible to really compare them to each other since they drive different cars in slightly different eras against different team mates.

For example would Max have dominated so much this season so far if he had Rosberg with his 2016 level of commitment in him as a teammate? Would Schumacher had more hits on that list if he wasn't racing against Hakkinen for some of his carrer? Would Vettel have had more entries on the list if RB had given him a more competitive car for more seasons

  • I am so sorry! It seems that my app's darkmode doesn't seem to distinguish between links and standard text very well.

Judging by the amount of upvotes my comment got and noone corrected me before you I assume this is a common issue (or my app is one of the more common ones).

  • I don't think I remember any progression of authoritative laws and policy passed by a previous government being rescinded by the incumbent party. Only democratically progressive ones.

For all the 'tHe LaSt LaBoUr GoVt' hand wringing that the Tory party has repeated ad nauseum they didn't pull back the various laws that they passed during their tenure. New Labour were pretty infamous for the onslaught of CCTV and trying to push through things like citizen ID cards and such. Many of the current police overreach that they have been afforded has its roots back in the days of Blair and Brown.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I would rather them than this decade long clown show any day. For my money they did a hell of a lot more positive than bad, but to come back around on the original statement, how much of that positive and progressive social policy and schemes survive vs the shit stuff?

  • Once upon a time he did seem to be okay (as far as billionaires can be).

Musk almost seemed philanthropic with his ventures of bringing forward the future with SpaceX and Tesla. Then almost suddenly he started to be vocal about certain politics and various bad practices came to light in how he behaved or treat his workforce.

In fact, it's only until relatively recently it seems where the ultra wealthy seemed to be quite under the radar. Bezos, for example. Before and during his divorce you never really heard much about him. He seemed pretty likable in many ways. Then suddenly that changed, the media perception shifted and these people started getting lots of publicity and they were clearly unable to curate their image any longer.

  • It's projection. They shout about 'snowflakes' and 'freedom of speech'. Or screech about 'wokeness' and all the other nonsense.

It's only to deflect from the fact that they're the snowflakes.

Most of them are too stupid to realise that's what they're doing. They're too embarrassed to admit (often to even themselves) that they have no idea what freedom of speech actually is, or indeed any of the things are that they whine incessantly about. Utterly drowning in their cognitive dissonance.

They get whipped up into such a feverous stupour of fear that they can't take a second to stop and actually think about what they're being fed by their media rag of choice. They might actually realise that their stance doesn't actually make any sense.

From Climate Change to Brexit. From Hunter Biden to Electric Vehicles. From '15minute cities' to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Someone level headed will make a comment or raise an issue of 'hey guys, maybe we should think about doing something about x. If we don't then it's probable that it will lead to something bad'. Something even as simple as offering a policy that will actually improve a great deal of people's quality of life (including their own) with little cost. It's all met with ruddy faced rage and flying spittle.

    It's absolute insanity.

  • I'll be curious to see how much of an impact this has really made when someone gets around to publishing the metrics.

I would like to hope that Reddit has take a significant traffic hit due this whole API bullshit, but I honestly wouldn't be all suprised if it was less than 10%.

But we will wait and see.

  • For the most part I think that they're all entirely nonsense and based around people searching for something that simply isn't there.

At the end of the video Lemmino spends some time talking about these, saying that they're just not credible based on so many factors. And for that I entirely agree. However he doesn't talk about the weird behaviour of the Secret Service following the event.

Now all of that could be down to Secret Service corruption, incompetence, secrecy etc etc, but it could also just as likely be on purpose.

I'm a big believer in Occam's Razor, that the simplest thing is probably what happened. As we all know the events, I fully believe that Oswald did what he did entirely as described in the video, but there are is also interesting 'evidence' that suggests that maybe one of Kenney's Secret Service detail may have unintentionally shot Kennedy in the back of the head in the chaos of everything and upon realising this, the Secret Service obviously decided to try and (successfully) cover it up.

Again, I fully recognise this theory as a conspiracy, but for me, based on what (admittedly small amount) I've seen on the matter this is the most credible. Because it's the simplest answer. Only being trumped by the simpler answer that everything happened as described.

  • The amount of effort and research that Lemmino puts into his videos are epic.

I can honestly believe that the amount of time between videos is entirely the length of time it takes to create one of his videos.

For anyone who hasn't heard of this youtuber I would strongly recommend his video on Jack the Ripper and the video on the origins of the 'Superman S'. The latter of which I think is the genesis of his passion for these long form deeply researched videos.

He has come such a long way from his roots as a bit of generic 'Top 10' lists creator to where he has come. Phenomenal development of skills and style.

I think my criticisms on this video, if I was to be picky, would be that he perhaps could have touched on some of the more credible 'conspiracies' surrounding and following the event. But I appreciate the length of the video was already nearly 2hours just in the details surrounding Oswald at the time. Maybe he's got another video planned regarding this, after all he has touched on speculation before on the Jack the Ripper video.

  • I don't mean this in a disparaging way, new fans are just as important and their passion just as valid as grizzled ones.

But this era of domination isn't new or unusual. Honestly, before Red Bull, it was Merc, then Red Bull. Every regs era has been dominated by a team. Some have been closer than others, but generally there's always been one which is 90% better than the rest in terms of wins. It only changes towards the last couple of years before a regs change.

  • Could be a while yet, in honesty.

None of the current major parties (and that's inclusive of Lib Dems) are totally commited to saying that they'll definitely and decisively go through the motions of rejoining. At least not that I'm aware of.

None have to confidence that it'll get them more votes than lost. Which is fucking frustrating. Especially since Labour seem to very quickly becoming much of a Tory mirror of late.

There is really little between them.

  • Close to 13 years, if not just over. Started as a lurker. Then saw something that I felt that I really needed to share my thoughts on. Of course it was just a mumble in a crowd, but it obviously meant enough to me to go through the effort of making an account.

I can't even remember what it was.

Over 100k karma and 3000 comments.

Reddit was by no means small in 2010, I don't claim to be a pioneer, but it was a different feeling place. Even back then RES was a must for desktop browsing. And 3rd party apps were the only option for mobile browsing. BaconReader was my choice. I think it was actually the first app I ever paid for.

Over time I tried different apps that were being developed and tried to bring a new thing to the table, such as card view (couldn't ever get away with that) or recently the ability to see deleted/removed comments (until Reddit started blocking certain API stuff that allowed that). Rather poetically found myself back on Baconreader just in time for the shutdown.

I don't think Lemmy necessarily feels the same as Reddit back then, but I wonder if that is more due to me changing and the communities that I follow, but it is scratching the itch of something to browse and occupy my mind, discover new information and feel like I'm among similar people when I'm procrastinating, shitting or something else.

  • It's also a bit daft, because not only do they now have your fingerprint, but your DNA and all the other unique identifiers that come with your blood and flesh.

I suspect that it won't be long until they're found, unless they're one of the few people who are totally off the system.

  • What is so different about my Pexel7a that's any different to my 5?

Nothing that I even notice. Except for missing convenience such as the rear finger sensor.

And that's the same for most models.

In fact in a desperate bid to make phones exciting again, manufacturers are trying to bring back the folding concept. And that's just going to be a total fad since it doesn't actually bring anything functional to the market.

  • I'm anti car? Sure thing buddy. Excellent assumption there given that I'm a big petrol head.

But because I also believe that they're not the solution to 99% of urban mobility that means I'm anti-car?

There are a multitude of viable alternatives to car reliance, many of which are currently already in application and shown to be incredibly effective already. But of course that doesn't fit your narrative of trying to make out that cars are the only way to get around.

Remember that American cities were demolished for cars in the post war era. If you can demolish to make room for cars, then you can build to accommodate people.

  • You're missing the point of the article and the discussion.

Wearing a helmet only adds a hurdle to something where the very core concepts of which is supposed to be the accessibility and freedom it offers.

For the statistical likelihood of a helmet saving someone's life or from serious injury, is it really worth the spotlight that is constantly placed on them?

Ironically, all they seem to be used for is as a weapon for battering the idea of making cycling easier for the masses around the head.

The amount of comments I've seen from absolute meat heads who can't bear the idea of not driving their cars literally everywhere justifying their behaviour towards a bike rider or that one is somehow responsible for an incident that wasn't their fault because they didn't wear a helmet is fucking barmy.

Cycling is a method of transport no different to any other. You don't have to cart around bulky, awkward and fairly fragile items with you when you get to your destination in your car, on the bus or via train. Why mandate it for the cleanest form of transport beside walking?

Bluntly put, you can fall over, hit your head and die without a bike at all. Should you have to wear a helmet all the time in your day to day? Silly notion and simply an appeal to emotion/but sometimes fallacy.

Edit: to those downvoting, please explain how you feel my comment hasn't added to the discussion, since that's what it's for. It isn't a 'disagree' button.
