  • Note about the proton thing. The game will start but not let you start any competitive game ( unsure about workshop/casual) but it does start.

I tried this when I had issues with cs2 and my Nvidia card. I switched back to the native one because I couldn't play the proton version.

So i don't think you'll get banned for it, it just won't work. Except if you try to shoehorn/hack the proton version to be able to join competitive games. But that's a whole other reason to get banned.

Not having any issues anymore since I switched to team red. Though sadly that doesn't help your case :(.

I'd keep an eye out on the GitHub repo. It's where I found an issue w.r.t. my Nvidia card at the time and once they found the issue and fixed it it got patched in quite fast.

  • Has it gotten a makeover yet? Last time I used it ~3 years ago it still looked like it was built in the early 90s.

It was functional, not a complaint about that. The super old design just got on my nerves.

  • Maybe one of these is interesting? I have no actual experience with them though:

    https://github.com/DumbWareio/DumbBudget

    https://maybefinance.com/

    https://paisa.fyi/

    They should all be self-hostable.

Edit: I don't know of these all match your criteria. Maybe finance looks pretty Sleek imho. I just dread the thought of exporting my transactions and importing them because my bank is forking horrible w.r.t. integrations.

And logging in every time to do a CSV export is just annoying.

    Edit 2: formatting

  • Sorry I don't fully understand your question. Forced/hooked on what exactly?

    The Xbox eco system?

Switching between consoles is a costly switch which will likely not pay off the price hike. That is assuming the competitor you're switching to also doesn't do a price hike shortly after you decide to switch.

They can switch to games from other publishers or other platforms ( e.g.: Nvidia ) instead of gamepass. But that would depend if the game is on there to begin with ( which is also an argument against game pass ). If all your friends are playing cod or Minecraft there isn't really an alternative to switch to either.

Switching from Windows to Linux is 'harder' because people think it's all terminals and magic and difficult. It generally isn't nowadays. But there isn't an initial cost to that. You don't need to buy new hardware, there's just a learning curve which doesn't have to be that steep. But I have a technical background so could be biassed on that.

People can still buy games second hand or through the various discount websites I suppose. But I suppose you'll still feel the price hike there as well. 10% off on a 60 or 80€ game is still the difference between paying 54 and 72.

Note: I actually didn't read the article, but only the headline. So I could be completely beside the point.

  • Huh TIL.

I never considered trying to install a package from a local file through apt, but always dpkg. End result is the same of course. The web suggests dpkg rather than apt as well ( or at least the pages I ended up on ).
