How to treat a man

Jump
  • I have female friends who never reported or did anything about it, out of stigma (what were you wearing? Were you asking for it? Are you faking?), shame (why was he able to get you alone?) Or not expecting justice to come of reporting it (you'll ruin his life, it was a mistake, I'm sure you deserved it, we don't have enough evidence.)

    That pendulum swings both ways.

  • I want to add another "everyone is different."

As in, my major depressive disorder is comorbid with ADHD. Which means my particular brain is wired like someone insane put it together.

The ADHD diagnosis didn't come until my mid-30s but the depression came before I was 10 years old, so I was trying everything on the market all those years. (Reminder to those of you still working on it that if there's even one day of genuine joy to be found, all the misery will have been worth it, yes, even if it takes 20 years.)

SSRIs for me are treating a problem with a solution I don't have. My brain refuses to make serotonin. There isn't any of it, so controlling it's uptake is pointless.

So it was just a massive variety of different types of numb, and different negative side effects. Of course, numb was preferable to misery, so I stayed on one or another for long stretches until I got the urge to try and find something that actually worked again.

  • Lemme say, personally, as an older woman, Hillary absolutely didn't capture me. I still remember when she blamed video games for society's problems. I grew up being underwhelmed by her. I voted and all but my point is if I had to make myself do it, there were lots of women I knew who wouldn't bother.

Harris is sounding more and more like someone I'm excited to vote for. You can't buy that. I am unsurprised she's leading with women now.

  • He's dead? So tell him yourself I guess lol.

Anyways, why would you "spread everyone out evenly?" We stuffed them into a tiny space that was already occupied. One assumes they'd be plopped into a town, which would centralize creating things like roads.

And the roads in Montana might suck, but there should be some kind of domestic package at play that would help from the federal level to create things like roads and water treatment and all that. Compared to how much we give Isreal now... could've put that money into development somewhere stateside.

  • It's not about that.

It's about dispelling the idea that everyone agrees with them.

Since they're the only ones weird enough to do things like this, they don't see that there are people who disagree, so they believe the lies that things are rigged.

  • I worked for Walmart in the mid 2000s.

It's not classist. That place is a hellhole. There's a reason so many people who work there are on food stamps.

It's classist to be mad at people who live in food deserts and can't shop elsewhere. It's classist to be fine with the system that puts people in jobs that don't actually support them. It's classist to look down on folks who get stuck in those jobs. It's not classist for someone to be unhappy that they got stuck in such a job.

    Fuck Walmart.

(I worked there and was a CSM before being able to move to a better job in 2010.)
