  • As a person who has learned 2 languages besides English, let me say the idea that you would go into a place where native speakers are discussing their own language and then tell them why they are wrong because non-native speakers wouldn't see a problem with the usage of the word in their own language...?

Certainly gutsy, I'll give you that. I can't imagine the balls to tell people speaking their native language that I, a student of their language, am learned enough to educate them on the subtle nuance of the use of a word in various contexts, but you do you I guess.

  • I appreciate this distinction.

I have massive tits and I am physically active. I also have a physically demanding job. I think people (mostly men but also women with smaller breasts) don't realize how much they just straight up get in the way!

And I'm nearing 40. And have had a child! They get pendulous real quick and I have a feeling by the time I retire I'll be able to tuck them into my waistband! I am a liberated woman! I come from hippies! I even went a couple years completely without a bra! Strapping these fuckers out of the way has nothing to do with a fear they are sinful or might be seen and everything to do with not having the time to bat them out of the way every thirty seconds.

I also hate the pivot from "we need better boob operator equipment" to "Well akshyually if you didn't wear bras at all it wouldn't be a problem." Okay fucko you think you have all the answers about why breasts are saggy, how about addressing the problem?

  • In a way I think this is part of why the old memos resurfaced. The humans were rebelling against the careful curating of contant they were exposed to previously by enjoying things that were organic and illogical.

  • Anecdotally, when I was a child and an ad for maxi pads came on TV showing that blue liquid, I had to listen to my father bitch about how there shouldn't be ads for menstrual products because they're "disgusting." And he shouldn't "have to think of that."

...so it's anecdotal only but I may have a theory about why...

  • Let me add- not only are they mostly coping fatties, they co-opted truths for the other end of the spectrum (extreme low BMI) and started claiming the same for themselves. Yes. BMI is a poor indicator of health in weight lifters. 500 lb people do not share that outlier.

I say this as a fat person who will likely die fat, who feels no guilt or shame or any negative internalized anything. It is a fact. I am fat. I will likely be fat for the rest of my life. It's as clinical to me (I work in healthcare) as the sky being blue or my patient being bradycardic- it is what it is and the sooner we stop pretending it's anything more than that, the sooner we can all move on to the more important realities of dealing with the consequences.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this. For a second I got to see through your eyes and enjoy the joy wonder of the unexpected discovery, and it was delightful and surprising. Don't let anyone make you feel stupid. Thanks for the reminder that we can always see something new!

  • Every single week they have some stupid bullshit drama I just can't get interested in. Last week I logged in and posted saying something about how every single time I check the site there's drama, and one of the people who replied to me was exactly the kind of person you described trying to tell me that there's not that much drama.

I almost pulled a "this you" because less than an hour ago they'd posted that they were soooo depressed over the drama, but... not worth it. Also they posted five times that hour so you nailed the estimate exactly.

I'd say it's worse than Facebook at this point.

  • It's not dozens, it's one user. You can see the user by picking any if your reduced comments and selecting 'activity.'

Apparently you pissed off a user spirited-pirate on kbin.social. They reduced all your comments an hour ago.

    Hope this helps!

  • Austin Powers was such a good spoof of the genre that it killed the genre it was spoofing (for a little while). It was also a great movie in its own right!

To this day I'll say "There you are!" And if someone asks if they know me, or if I was looking for them, or any number of things, I'll say, "No, but there you are! You're there!"

  • This is the sanest take.

People get mad about the amount of US news, but forget the US is essentially 52 (or more if we broke up by sheer size, or by populations or cultures) countries.
