I came here to say essentially the same thing. It's hillbilly code-switching; if you speak without an accent most of the time, but then meet someone who speaks that way, you can put the accent "back on" again and immediately gain a massive boost to your charisma stat when you need it.

I do it all the time at work. No accent until I'm providing care for someone with a southern accent, then bam! "Well, ah doan know whai inneewon wooden lissen to me!"

  • Is it equally valid to complain about seeing ads for Mother's Day gifts when your mother was a drug addict and extensively abusive? Because that applies to me personally, and let me tell you, during the entire lead up to Mother's Day, and all the ads they make claiming how much your mother gives up for you, and loves you, and cherishes you... I don't complain even a bit.

Because other people have mothers who do love them. And they're the target of those ads, not me.

How disgustingly privileged it is to proclaim that since you aren't the target of advertising, it shouldn't exist.

I figured the whole reason they don't allow men is because every male Gerudo turned out to be fucking Ganon. And allowing femme presenting outsiders was their version of "you clearly identify as female, come on in."

I actually thought that them letting in the Goron was because the Goron identified as female! "You are made of literally rock come to life, but if you identify as female, that's good enough for us."

I guess it's hard for me to feel like they're trans exclusionary when there are literally no men born, except one possible man in Kara Kara, and again, the world-ending abomination known as Ganon. They never stop to question Link's gender once he puts on their culture's special woman-signifying clothes, so I always thought they would be radically accepting. If getting your gender affirmed were as simple as putting on a pair of pants and a top (and they aren't even particular about presentation of breasts) ...sounds not terfy to me?

I know this might blow your mind, but people can be and do multiple things at once.

I knew an astrophysicist who loved trashy romances. Instead of asserting what you want from the people around you when you interact with them, maybe consider that humans are complex and made up of many stages of evolution that forced us to be interested in the social lives of others. (Sometimes as a preservation instinct; is the friend of my friend going to convince them to withhold food because I'm different? Sometimes as entertainment; is this person I don't know in a stable romantic raltionship?)

And as a result, take a moment and recognize that the "I'm respectful of other people's privacy by not wanting to know about them" angle only works if everyone believes in Live and Let Live. Which is very obviously not the case.

  • This is the wrong take. Instead of saying he got too much time for "date rape" (and considering the harrowing story of Jane Doe 1 and the way it was suppressed by the Church of Scientology I'm not so sure you've read about the severity of these charges) you should ask why a drunk driver got so little time.

But killing one person drunk driving is a less severe crime than a serial rapist in my opinion.

I usually don't respond to people with 88 in their name but I figured if an ignorant person read your comment without someone addressing it they might get the wrong impression.

I assure you that compiling this data was nonconsensual but my brain is rarely concerned with how I feel about it.

The worst part is, I put together a list of the insurrectionists by state, and I got through New York before I was able to override my impulse and just provide a list of how many per state. I hate being hard-wired for tedious paperwork.

  • @Varyk

No... no, this isn't an acceptable hyperfocus! I HAVE WORK TO DO! AAA-

Well, we go where the serotonin demands.

Here is an alphabetical list and the number of entries on the FBI site for cases in that state. Be advised this is of the number of people who were arrested in each state, so outliers (such as fugitives) aren't made clear, and neother are those who might be listed for multiple arrests in different states.

Additionally, I counted them by hand, on my awful phone, so user error is real.

Finally, I had some mechanical difficulty sorting through the individuals in the state of Washington versus towns named Washington in other states, versus the District of Columbia, the number of which I included after the list.

    Alabama - 16
    Alaska - 2
    Arizona - 11
    Arkansas - 4
    California - 59
    Colorado - 17
    Connecticut - 4
    Delaware - 5
    Florida - 95
    Georgia - 24
    Hawaii - 1
    Idaho - 7
    Illinois - 36
    Indiana - 18
    Iowa - 8
    Kansas - 19
    Kentucky - 23
    Louisiana - 3
    Maine - 5
    Maryland - 16
    Massachusetts - 11
    Michigan - 23
    Minnesota - 12
    Mississippi - 1
    Missouri - 31
    Montana - 5
    Nebraska - 1
    Nevada - 3
    New Hampshire - 5
    New Jersey - 28
    New Mexico - 3
    New York - 66
    North Carolina - 24
    North Dakota - 0
    Ohio - 58
    Oklahoma - 10
    Oregon - 8
    Pennsylvania - 80
    Rhode Island - 4
    South Carolina - 15
    South Dakota - 2
    Tennessee - 28
    Texas - 84
    Utah - 9
    Vermont - 1
    Virginia - 53
    Washington - 14
    West Virginia - 8
    Wisconsin - 9
    Wyoming - 0

Bonus round, Discrict of Columbia - 31

Also, I found zero incidents listed in any US territories but I may have been searching incorrectly.

I don't think it's fair that North Dakota (population; 763,657) and Wyoming (population 585,587) get the honor of being in the clear. The population of Hawaii (as estimated, my sympathies for the fires) was 1.43 million and produced a mere one insurrectionist. So I think a fairer metric might be insurrectionists by percentage of overall population. It might be skewed in some specific instances (New York being skewed by New York city, as a prime example) but it would be a more interesting metric...

God I hope I forget this thought experiment before I come to work tomorrow.
