  • US companies must comply if they serve European customers. Reddit may make you try to prove you are European and deny it.

    I believe under the CCPA which is a California law that is also strong and would also require them removing your data. It might apply to them even if you don’t reside in California since that is where they are based.

  • Of course it is public. But I can be pseudo anonymous. I can have multiple aliases on different instances and I don’t have to register my phone number or other personal information. There’s no trackers tracking every damn thing I look at and correlating it all together. I can use it over Tor or VPN if I need more anonymization…

  • Not just funding cuts, but it was heavily politicized and had its direction changed every 4 years. You can’t plan long term like that. It needs to be a government agency but not at the whim of the president or congress.

  • It is a lack of empathy and personal responsibility. They aren’t happy with their life so they must either 1) blame it on someone else 2) hurt someone else so they feel they are doing better (everything is relative).

    They literally cannot fathom that helping someone else doesn’t make you worse off, even if that person is now doing better.

  • I expect in a patch release that nothing has changed and I can blindly update getting minor bug fixes and security fixes. In a minor release I expect to review the changes for configuration changes or any minor UI changes. For a major release I expect to read docs on how to upgrade and prepare backups and downtime.

  • But it isn’t that hard to create a signal account with the name of someone high in the US ranks and send a request to these people. They are too dumb to actually validate the key of the person.

    Encryption can’t handle when the encrypt with a foe’s key and send that for the message.
