  • Considering that the Dutch were below average before the second world war, I think your hypothesis is wrong. I think they were just compensating for being tiny during that time.

On a more serious note, I just think the Dutch had zero scruples (inventors of modern capitalism and all).

They just didn't care how many people they screwed over aslong as they could get one more Gulden in their pocket.

  • As much as I want to joke that it is the year of the Linux desktop, I think it is mostly because the younger you are the less likely you are to have a pc (so Windows, Mac, Linux and BSD for the dozens of you).

As far as I can see most of the time people use their phone for everything and only touch a pc for work or if they have a hobby that requires the use of a pc (gaming, digital art, music, programming, etc...).

  • The only thing it will do is turn off potential users because they either feel attacked for using a perfectly useable os or they do want want to be associated with the onmine culture around the os.

  • Absolutely a possibility

  • I am talking for handhelds which are treated as consoles so the underlying os or gui makes no difference. Unless it stops you from playing the game you like.

No one should tell you to leave an os if it works for you.

  • You are asuming they do physical work and aren't just white collar.

  • I am more thinking of the Valorant, League, Call of Duty, Fortnite, etc... players. Which are a majority of pc gamers.

  • Well according to information out there they did get permition to tweak Windows to make it much more sutible for gaming handhelds.

  • Everyone that is scared they can't play the most popular online games on their handheld. So theoretically a massive demographic according to research (most pc gamers play older live service titles) done but whether they would want a gaming handheld is a different question.

  • Gateway 2000 with Windows 95. I do not know which specific configuration (I was too young). I do remember the games I had though: Tyrian 2000, Jazz Jackrabbit 2, C&C, HoM3, I-war, Flight Simulator 95, LBA 2 and Jersey Devil. Half of them were copies I got from a neighbour that owned a cd-r.

  • Well the year of the Linux desktop will have to wait a few years considering Valve time.

  • WAIT, isn't that the flag of Luxemburg? The blue looks too light for the Dutch flag or the French flag.

  • I still remember watching the news as a child right after the tsunami of 2004 and seeing the death toll rising day by day.

It is only going to get worse with climate catastrophy barely being addresed. Hunger and water shortage is only going to increasr the frequencies of wars and pandemics. Which will result in more and more extremism.

  • I agree with you on that one, but since we do not have official support we will have to get by with the hard work of the community.

  • Was the logitech mouse not supported by libratbag (backend of Piper)?

  • Same in Dutch,

    "Vijf voor half vier"

  • It is a move to decouple from the USA for critical infrastructure. They don't want to be in a similar situation as Ukraine in any potential conflict. Where the USA just says we will no longer allow you to use our computer chips for war with Russia.

  • I was getting some meh results with DuckDuckGO so I switched to Qwant and started trying it instead.

  • Personally, I think you are probably stuck with Windows for now, since I imagine you really don't want to learn a whole slew of new programs (that might or might not do everything you want) in my very uninformed opinion.

Internet connectivity should be mostly fine but that can depend on hardware sometimes.

Gaming is in general not a problem if you have Steam, Heroic, Lutris, Bottles and Protonup QT. But look into ProtonDB to see which runs and which doesn't.

But for much of the professional software it will become a hassle. You could look into CrossOver by Codeweavers (a paid version of Wine) and see what compatability that brings. But for the most part I think you would probably have to setup a Windows Virtual Machine with GPU Passthrough.
