  • game developer hastily taking notes

To give us options to hide our phobias from your games, right? Right?!

  • The exit plan is absolutely agoraphobia. I got that too. Gotta sit at the end of rows. Gotta plan my exit so that I either get out before the crowd, or after. Prefer car-vacations over planes or ships. My impresssion from the psychiatrist is that any fear that makes us feel irrasionally trapped, thats agoraphobia.

avoid calling anyone by their name.

I do that too. But because I'm really crappy at remembering peoples names. And those few times I do remember I'm just not used to it. I really should work on this because repeating peoples names does make it easier to remember them.

  • Almost everything I enjoy requires vision. I think I would be very depressed without it. Take my voice, my hearing, my leg or arm, but dont take my sight. So I am very careful with my vision too.

So got me very worried a year ago when I noticed my eyesight had started to deteriorate. I cant see clearly in half-dark environments anymore. Watching meeting car lights and I cant measure their distance. Digital speed signs are hard to read at night. Watching the moon and it is blurry and has a squished halo. I'm only 38! I was planning to live until I was hundred. What if its gone long before?

Hope I didnt give you another fear. 😟 Anyway, if anyone is a djinni or devil or any other kind of wish-fullfiller for a terrible price and reading this, I'm up for negotiating for a perfect vision for the next 60 years.

  • Cars exist so you must be able to drive and shoot out of them and there must be cops and there must be traffic and…

Why wasnt this expectation in L.A. Noire? Didnt hear much yelling for cops and better traffic there. What we got was very barebones.

  • Yeah. Its probably just me that is boring enough to ride the train in GTA occasionally. Also the train in RDR2. Just watching nature and city goes by. Its relaxing. If its a interesting view. Which C2077 absolutely has a lot of.

  • going “Huh, I feel like I’m missing stuff

Thats how it is to read a Marvel comic too. I love it. But it is not for everyone. And in comics there is too much to keep up so you just accept that you cant.

  • Yes. But I doubt they would be if they were bigger.

  • Im curious, does that include Norwegian fjords? Surrounded as they are by huge, smooth mountains.

In winter times I think that is healthy. How people can live at the water-line there, thats just asking to eventually be pushed into the sea by a snow avalanche.

  • Agoraphobia. Mostly in social situations. Until diagnosed properly, I thought it was social anxiety. Anyway, I easily feel closed in. Trapped. Avoid middle seats in cinemas. Don't like being in crowds. Or stuffed public transports.

And wasps and bees and their likes. I was on edge for two days recently because a wasp i swatted in my room, I never found its body. Fraid it was just stunned and is waking up anytime. And I get itchy if I suspect any wasp is close.

Bright green rubber-like small spiders. Also big hairy spiders get me on the edge. Not daddy longlegs though, they are cute.

Also just a healthy amount of fear of severe heights. Which mostly disappears as soon as I have a safely attached rope, or a solid branch or railing to hold onto. So I don't fear climbing.

And dentists. As soon as I smell dentist offices, I start shaking.

  • If a billionaire (or a very big bunch of millionaires) out of the goodness of their heart (yeah, not gonna happen) threw a massive amount of money into advertising for a open source product they dont own, Lemmy could be as or more popular. Even if it has fewer features. Even if its uglier. Even if its more complicated.

I can't count the many times I've seen the worser product has won out because it had big corpo ad budget. Turned me a bit cynical.

  • Nothing is simpler than passwords. But we want something thats both simple and safe. Even for lazy people, tech-unsawy people, and people with bad memory.

What if every pc came with a jubikey-ish reader and every website supported a browser api for it? Probably not jubikey, but something that fit in a wallet like bank cards do (but also was an open tech so that anyone can implement and sell cards). Wouldn't it be both safer and simpler than passwords? It would take some time to turn around of course but the same was probably the case for https, 2fa, ipv6, and tpm's.

  • Oh, they are. I keep telling people to WRITE DOWN YOUR PASSWORDS, and NEVER use same password on two sites. They dont listen. Its a lot easier to just remember 1-4 variations of a password and use that than carry around a password notebook. And they think themselves safe.

I'm thinking most people shouldnt use passwords at all anymore. They are a huge point of failure because people are people. We need something else to be the norm. How can we make hardware keys or something the norm for logging in? Have everyone carry around a bankcard-like thing that fit into every computer where people need credentials. Would'nt that be safer while still being accessible and convenient?

  • Not surprised. But I had never seen a game like that by then. And very rarely after too. Most recent one I played was.. Alien Swarm, I think? I loved that one too.

  • The game was kickass for a kid who loved all kinds of weird action games! I probably shouldn't try it again and ruin my memories of it.

But a top down shooter where you could fire in different directions than you were walking was revolutionary for a kid who had mostly played metal gear solid on his new PlayStation.

  • Jup. Trying to figure out how to get friends or connect with people, and forcing myself into social stuff, it nearly broke me 10 years or so ago. The idea that my happiness is my responsibility, I cant wait around for someone else, it was a relief. (Or a coping mechanism? Idk, im no psychologist.)

  • I dont know. Really. Got no clue why I'm having so hard time connecting to people. Not just love either, I'm just as bad at getting new friends. Or connecting with family. Feels like I missed a class on social life that everyone else went through. I've tried asking people directly how I'm doing wrong. For other people it is so natural that they dont even know how they are doing it and cant tell. "Just talk with people."

  • When we get rid of the fucking fascists, we’re taking away your right to vote.

Listen to yourself. Is this really the words of a democrat?

Might also be you are a trolling Ianguage model. In which case I'm the stupid one for having taken the bait, i guess. 😟

  • The exact same can be said about the music industry as well. To be me the more interesting movies/bands tend to be the obscure ones, which modern industry has strategically eliminated.

I was born in '85, so grew up in the 90s. And I thought I just didnt like music. It was crap. And played over and over again on every radio, every TOP X Hits CD, and in every gymnastic class. I tried searching, but the local music shops just contained the most pop stuff and nothing else. '01 was when I first found I actually enjoy music. One guy burned a CD with some progressive metal on it. And not long after that I found so damn much good music that just wasnt available to me before we had internet and could share mp3s.

So the good music was already eliminated in the 90s, at least where I live. And came back with internet sharing, despite the music industri trying their best to strangle it instead of embracing it. They havent stopped. Notice how out of trends mp3s are now? All is about the damn streaming. Thats them doing surprisingly well at controlling, imho.

This doesnt disprove your experience, of course. We need a bigger sample for that.

  • You assume seriously lot of me just because I enjoy action movies.

I'm as left as I think I can get. I believe in science, I believe in the climate crisis, and vaccines, and all that shit. I dont believe that we should all have guns. I'm against war, but for it if its the only way to survive. I havent blamed anyone for anything yet, except the fascists for being elitists. I definitly dont believe in Trump, how many times do I have to repeat that? Also again: I'm not American, and I dont know which country you live in that I could have destroyed. My own country is okay-ish, our politicians arent all good, but my country isnt close to destroyed by anything. Though I do admit that I do less than I should for a better tomorrow for everyone.

So you should sit down and cool down, take a look at where this thread started, re-examining your thought processes and behavior, and take another educated guess at who the one acting immature is.

  • Is there a time when it wasnt? I dont believe the average movie was less shitty back then either. It is just that the best movies survive our memories and in our culture, so the past might seem more classy from here.
