  • Indian here. The reason isn't Windows' price tag - pirated Windows is very cheap and common - but a government push to make us less dependent on foreign (i.e. US / Chinese) companies. Schools, government offices, hospitals etc. have shifted to, or are shifting to, Linux (mostly Ubuntu and Mint). This shift started over a decade ago, but the US sanctions on Russia have spooked the government into speeding things up now.

  • Nazi Germany actually considered a 3 or 4 m gauge railway (this is the distance between the tracks; the train would be about double that). In comparison, the broadest tracks actually in use are 1.676 m wide. The plan was cancelled following WW2.

  • Most players I know do not pay for cosmetics. 'Whales' - rich people who want to show off, or who love the game and want to support it - buy them. Some streamers also buy, but they get compensated by their sponsers. There is the occassional case of a kid buying it with their parent's money, and such purchases should definitely be reversed, but otherwise I see nothing wrong.

  • Hmm you're right. But the hours-long duel Dumbledore had with Grindelwald is mentioned as something only he could do. So it might be that magical energy is limited, but you'd need to be casting spells for more than an hour or so for it to start having an effect.

  • Wands don't generate mana / magical energy. Wizards do. The wands are just efficient at chanelling it in a single beam. So if you use multiple wands together, you sacrifice staying power for firepower. Which means if you miss, you'll take longer to recharge, and meanwhile you are a sitting duck.

  • Games cost money to develop. Unless a game is open-source, you either pay a fixed price initially, or have microtransactions. The problem is when they get greedy and do both / make it pay to win. Selling cosmetics does not affect gameplay, so I don't mind them doing it.

  • Isn't it a general trend that younger people, on average, are less xenophobic / racist / bigoted than the previous generation? I also remember reading somewhere that younger Chinese people are friendlier to Japan, South Korea and the US than their parents.

  • The Iran-Saudi thing started before the current round of fighting. At most the conflict accelerated it, and sunk any chance of a Saudi-Israeli peace.

Israel is about to cause peace in the Middle East.

I'm guessing they were either joking, or talking about the Iran-Egypt normalisation. That one may be due to the current conflict, but Middle East politics is complicated and I'm not an expert.
