  • Right now, there's a decent chance that Pakistan falls to the Taliban and their nukes will be in their hands …

Source? The Pakistani military had enough control over the country to replace the former PM with the current guy. Now I'm not saying this is a good thing, but I don't see the Taliban beating them in an open fight.

  • The US government printed a lot of money after the 2008 financial crisis. Some people criticised this, saying it would devalue the US Dollar. But the government went ahead with the plan, resulting in a meme where critics bring up a lot of arguments and Obama (?) says 'haha money printer go brr'.

  • But the Mongols willingly assimilated into Chinese culture for ease of administration, becoming the Yuan Dynasty. So a lot of the 'Chinese' sources were written by people of Mongol ancestry, or people who worked for them.

  • I think the post is pointing out that nature doesn't work the way social darwinists think it does. Although symbiosis between different species, as shown here, isn't the strongest argument they could have chosen. Personally I would have gone with (non-kin) altruism.

  • I believe you officially have to create a Mi Account, send a request and wait for seven days. According to friends who did it here (India), the rest is not required.

But also, for many devices, you can do it unofficially. This is what I did.

  • If you are using the default OS (MIUI), you can install another browser (from Play Store or F-Droid) and then disable Chrome by adb. Other apps will then be forced to send their links to your new browser.

Xiaomi also allows you to install your own OS and/or root your phone, but that isn't necessary.

  • Indian here. The reason isn't Windows' price tag - pirated Windows is very cheap and common - but a government push to make us less dependent on foreign (i.e. US / Chinese) companies. Schools, government offices, hospitals etc. have shifted to, or are shifting to, Linux (mostly Ubuntu and Mint). This shift started over a decade ago, but the US sanctions on Russia have spooked the government into speeding things up now.

  • Nazi Germany actually considered a 3 or 4 m gauge railway (this is the distance between the tracks; the train would be about double that). In comparison, the broadest tracks actually in use are 1.676 m wide. The plan was cancelled following WW2.
