    • Original series (all 26 episodes)
    • End of Evangelion (optional, but recommended. This happens chronologically at the same time as Ep 25 and 26)
    • Everything else (optional, not recommended)

The OG series is the story Anno wanted to show. Some fans wanted a more concrete ending, so Anno gave them a concrete ending in EoE. Then some fans wanted a happy ending where Shinji gets the girl so Anno said fuck it, sold out, and made a series with a happy ending where Shinji gets a girl. But now some fans want a happy ending where Shinji gets the right girl so Anno gave up on them as lost causes and went and directed Shin Godzilla.

  • All fascism is nationalist. There's no 'other instance'. And a common theme in the rise of fascism is a compromise between the rich (capitalists, local gentry, etc.) and the fascist organisation, where the former bankrolls the latter in return for maintaining their economic and social position / backdoor deals / protection. Further, this usually happens as a result of some marginalised group - factory workers, serfs, women, etc. getting too uppity.

  • The Hindu's website is a UI disaster, which is sad as they are probably the best newspaper in India in terms of content. If you have Firefox, try using Reader Mode.

As of now, it seems the court's ruling is that the state should not discriminate between couples on the basis of gender, at least for spousal benefits.

For Asia as a whole, three places - Taiwan (decriminalised in 1991 / full equality in 2019), Nepal (2007/2023) and Thailand (1956/2024) - have full marriage equality, while China (1997/2017), India (2018/2022) and parts of Japan (1882/2020s) recognise same-sex relationships in some form and give them some benefits.

Most remaining countries neither prohibit nor legally recognise same-sex relationships. Some West Asian countries have bans on homosexuality, with varying levels of enforcement and punishment.

Another point to note is that in most parts of Asia, being transgender is much more acceptable, so same-gender couples are often pressured to become 'normal' by one partner transitioning - at least on paper - to the other gender. Iran is probably the most extreme case - homosexuality is a serious offence that can be punished with jail or even death, but gender transitioning surgeries are subsidised and gay people are pushed to use them.

  • Trying to think of that one time fascism was economically beneficial to capitalists... Nope. I can't recall one.

Almost all fascist politicians were supported by local elites who thought they could control them. Sometimes they could; sometimes the fascists got too strong to be controlled.

  • There is a saying, something along the lines of 'politics is the shadow that economics casts over society'. Now obviously there is no one to one correlation between a country's economic and political systems, but rich people often respond to calls for economic reform by trying to make the public fight among themselves. Fascism is one possibility, 'culture war' is another, bread and circuses a third, and so on.

  • The only consistent components of fascism are an autocratic government and a dictatorial ruler, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible nationalism through suppression of opposition.

This is authoritarian nationalism, not fascism. All fascism is nationalist and authoritarian, not all nationalism or authoritarianism is fascist. Bismarck, Churchill and Erdogan are/were authoritarian nationalists, but I wouldn't call any of them fascist.

  • Nepal politics is so chaotic. There are three more or less equally big parties - two communist (Marxist Leninists and Maoists) and one centrist (Nepali Congress). Any two of the three can form a majority in Parliament, so they keep making and breaking coalitions in all possible combinations and permutations.

  • Chinese companies have several advantages going for them:-

    • Large domestic market
    • Skilled and educated workforce
    • Natural resources and good transport infrastructure
    • Loans / subsidies for investment

    All of these lead to:-

    • Economies of scale - building your thousandth car is much cheaper than building your first; and
    • Short supply chains - building a smartphone becomes a lot cheaper when chips, cameras, screens and cases are all manufactured in the same country, perhaps even the same city.

And yes, China is a lot richer than Thailand, so they can take over the local market if they want to.

  • Ah, so he protected them from being prosecuted or something?

More or less. Not he alone, but many senior LDP leaders with him at the helm.

The murderer wrote.that.he planned to kill the church leader,.but changed.his mine cause Abe was more famous and would get more attention.

    Correct.

I don't think there is evidence that the murderers motivations were political, but I could be wrong.

As I understand, he wanted to draw attention to the Moonies while 'punishing' someone he held responsible for his family's condition.

  • It wasn't just religious affiliation. He, and others in the LDP, protected the Moonies in return for their political support. It was very much a political issue (separation of church and state).
