  • Also it's no indication that the server itself is secure - if I manage to get access to... say Amazon's webserver, I could modify it to send all credit card details, usernames, passwords, etc. to me when someone buys something/logs in. The certificate wouldn't indicate any of that

  • Yes, there's the border to Norway (and thus NATO) nearby. But look at the map. There's a small part of border with Norway and a huge border with Finland, which was a 'neutral' border back then. Now it's all NATO.

  • I somewhat vaguely remember reports from the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine and talks about Finland joining NATO, that the region around Murmansk is a somewhat problematic spot for Russia. They have a huge military presence there and it's also one of their bases equipped with atomic bombs that threaten the west/NATO. But on the other hand land based access is only possible along the long and thin stretch of land along the Finnish border in an area that presumably is hard to defend.

  • They're a German invention and well known here. There are several variations, they're usually a kind of sport/balance toy for kids and teens - but there are also some for medical uses. You can find some variants in pictures here: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedalo_(Spielger%C3%A4t)

They're also a recurring German meme, although I don't really know why. The Wikipedia link above mentions them, but only says that it started with an image of a guy on Pedalos with the caption "Bruder muss los" (Bro needs to go) referencing a situation that you want to get out of, but have only inconvenient methods to leave.

  • This is my temporary potato holder. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My temporary potato holder is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my temporary potato holder is useless. Without my temporary potato holder, I am useless. I must fire my temporary potato holder true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will ...
My temporary potato holder and I know that what counts in war is not the potatoes we launch, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit ...
My temporary potato holder is human, even as I [am human], because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will keep my temporary potato holder clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will ...
Before God, I swear this creed. My temporary potato holder and I are the defenders of my yard. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.
So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace!

  • Grammar Nazi chiming in:

    Too meaning ‘also’

We can use too to mean ‘also’. It is more common than also in informal situations. We normally use it at the end of the clause.

In short answers in informal situations, we normally say me too, not I too.

In more formal situations, we can use too immediately after the subject.
