I only host Nextcloud in an old setup (read pure PHP, MariaDB, Apache - no docker, etc.)
That server is set-up to be snapshotted daily. Also there's a script running about 30 min before each snap shot that will also dump the database to disk (as otherwise the snapshot might contain a random state of the database). It's not perfect, but it works - also because everything of this is done in the night, when I do not use the system, so chances are really low, that the snapshot of the disk and the database dump in it are not desynchronized too much.
I do not know what's the best practice for a modern Nextcloud setup with docker is or how to handle the other two...
...the way Switch carts are made there is no difference at all between a cart used on a console and the same cart resold for a different console.
IIRC every cartridge has its own cryptographic key and can be uniquely identified. When it became possible to dump game cards and load them on a flash card, there were reports, that it is possible, that this might lead to a detection - as the flashcards need to replicate this key. Now, Nintendo might have no way to tell if you lend the game to someone, of the other switch that uses it bought the game from you, etc. BUT if it is pirated, it's possible to detect, when the original and the copy are played at the same time, as the cartridge cannot be physically in two switches simultaneously. There were never any reports, that someone really got banned because of this, though...
No, were ashamed that our species is collectively capable of voting for a guy like him. We'd love to point a finger at Americans and imitate Nelson with a "Ha Ha!" of pure Schadenfreude (and maybe even a meme of "That's the worst president they've elected in the history of their nation! - That's the worst president they've elected in the history of their nation so far!" or watch from the distance saying "He's about to do something stupid")
But honestly, we just can't laught at Americans while they're not only affecting and destroying their lifes but also try to drag down as many others world wide as they can.
Yeah, but that novel assumes, that they also had internet, electronic cash, mobile phones, etc. so you get the modern tracking possibilities combined with the literal Nazis. They just weren't really proficient in using that, but that changes through out the story.
There's a German novel called "NSA - Nationales Sicherheitsamt" (which is a literal translation of the US National Security Agency to German).
The plot is an alternative history in which the Nazis had some of today's tech (read computers, internet, databases), although quite "ancient" and not with the full potential unlocked, that we have today. Then an analyst realizes, what one can do with this tech and that her queries endanger her friends more and more.
[...] in my other jobs we were using Google Workspace which only shows metadata because of that[...]
Rare moment when Google is mentioned as behaving GDPR compliant... I mean, I know that big tech is vacuuming up all data and doesn't care about GDPR, but still.... You can be worse than effing Google?
Reporting in, I'm one of them. Always buying shit for the kids to keep em occupied for several hours a day so I can finally mange to get a Gaming session on on the Switch 2 /s
Assuming you do have a place to host it (even at home on your PC, or an old PC, not necessarily reachable from the internet), and assuming you know a bit about docker, it's quite easy actually.
Note that the example above in the beginner variant uses Caddy as a webserver which - by default - assumes you're running it on a server that can be publicly reached from the internet and won't start up correctly otherwise - e.g. at home - unless you change some config.
LOL, at a quick glance one might even be able abuse a scheduled job on free-tier GitHub runner for the data update and host it statically on GitHub pages.
Not the person you replied to, but: my own on my server. Con: I have to do the administration. Pro: I started using it, noted my preferred default settings and just set those as a server side default where possible. Also I have full control over which engines are enabled per default and which are available generally.
That's exactly what I think will happen/is already happening. I'm not a fan of it and probably have no influence to stop them from doing it - maybe in my own county, but less in a foreign one.
