  • NYS BAR Association: https://nysba.org/NYSBA/Publications/LegalEASE%20Pamphlet%20Series/PUBS_LegalEase_YourRIghtsToAppealInCriminalCase_final.pdf

Bear in mind that the sentence imposed by the lower court will go into effect while the appeal is being considered by the appellate court unless the trial judge or appellate court stays the sentence or a part of it (orders that it not go into effect). The order staying the judgment of conviction and sentence may include a requirement to post bail.

The “unless” (emphasis mine) is the operative word. The trial judge can choose to exercise discretion, but is under no requirement to specify any changes upon receiving an appeal.

That is to say, the default procedure is, as I said above, the convicted party serves their sentence during the time the appeal is being processed and considered.

  • lmao.. but I thought we were supposed to be the zealots, what with the “blue MAGA” and all.. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never wasted my time mass downvoting that crowd - and it wouldn’t even take that long given there are like six of them.

  • Yep. My comment does have a single downvote though, and I’m pretty sure I know exactly who it is. Last time I called these fools out one of them got into words with me and I’ve been getting one single downvote on basically all my comments since then.

Hi pal! Glad to know I’m living in your head rent free.

  • I was briefly able to get to https://archive.org/donate - I’m going to kick them a few bucks and recommend anyone else who can afford to also do so.

There’s also this, copied verbatim from the site:

  • With it being local it’s probably a small and limited model. I took a couple courses on machine learning years ago (before it got rebranded as “AI”), and you’d be surprised at how well a basic image recognition model can run on the lowest-spec macbook from 2012.

  • We’re looking at how we can use local, on-device AI models -- i.e., more private -- to enhance your browsing experience further. One feature we’re starting with next quarter is AI-generated alt-text for images inserted into PDFs, which makes it more accessible to visually impaired users and people with learning disabilities. The alt text is then processed on your device and saved locally instead of cloud services, ensuring that enhancements like these are done with your privacy in mind.

IMO if everything’s going to have AI ham fisted into it, this is probably the least shitty way to do so. With Firefox being open source, the code can also be audited to ensure they’re actually keeping their word about it being local-only.

  • No, no, you got it all wrong. It’s freedom for bigots to not have “the gay agenda” forcibly foisted upon them. Don’t you see how it could be offensive to and even discriminatory against christofascists to be reminded that non-straight people exist and are human beings too? Idk dude it sounds to me like you just hate small government conservative values ™️ and freedom.

    (/s if it wasn’t obvious)

  • I had to check if that was actually there because at first I just couldn’t believe. It’s actually there. The author of this piece just casually put a section titled “Threat” under their contact details, as if that’s a normal thing you include when you share your writing.

  • Biden and Trump both accepted an invitation to debate from CNN and another from ABC, both within hours of this AP story going live. While you’ve got some valid points here regarding incompetence and mismanagement we’ve seen from the major parties of late, in this particular instance it seems like it worked out.

I’d also like to point out once again that my original comment was not trying to argue whether or not this was a good thing, I was providing a source showing that the debate commission has a long history of scheduling debates after the start of early voting. You even asked for a source on that, hence my reply.

  • I didn’t set out to prove anything or argue any point other than the complaint about the debates being scheduled after early voting starts are rooted in fact.

In fact, the only thing I really did was provide relevant sources to indicate that, yes, the debate commission has a history of scheduling at times after early voting starts.
