  • I'm happy with Lemmy.ml. I feel like moderation is taken seriously here and that is a very good thing. I don't care for "free speech" that provides a platform for immoral points of view. For example, I do not need to consider the opinions of racists or Nazis. I've heard them plenty and there is no redeeming value in their speech. It is a settled debate. Anyone who doesn't understand that deserves your suspicion.

  • If you can get a job for LM, you can get a job somewhere else. If a bit more money persuades you to help build child pulverizing machines, you never had any ethics to begin with.

  • I'm saying that there isn't much of a difference. I agree that Ukraine is fucked and that the time for negotiations is long gone. Why would Russia negotiate now when they expect a clear advantage on the horizon?

I think Zelensky is saying this to look tough and keep the support from Europe coming in at least.

  • He's doing whatever he can, but ultimately him saying this doesn't make it so-- no matter how much he (or you) wish it would. Ukraine has been losing ground even with US support and they will only lose more without it. To pretend otherwise is to live in a fantasy. In such a situation the US has at least as much control over how much Ukrainian territory ends up under Russian occupation, as does Ukraine.

  • Recently? Her vote in favor of a bullshit definition of antisemitism, and I saw an article yesterday about her pledging to change her 'rebel ways' to fit in better with the dem party line (meaning no longer support primary challenges to incumbents)-- and then Pelosi passed her over in favor of another decrepit dinosaur for a spot on the oversight committee.

  • I mean, I can't prove it to you so you can just believe it or not. I definitely didn't mean to imply that I'm making some "great societal change". That's not an attainable goal. The question was about how I deal with the state of the world. For me, my anxiety was peaking in the early days of the pandemic and the political situation in the US. I was just doomscrolling all day. Finally I decided that I just needed to do something/anything. I contacted a local mutual aid group in my area and started helping distribute hot meals around my area. I did that for about 2 years, twice a week. I have gone on to do more organizing (food, politics, skill shares) with some of the people I met there, and have expanded my network of like-minded friends. It has helped my mental health immensely.

  • Yeah, this is pretty much their bit. "Policies aimed at correcting historical trends of racial disparities are racist, actually." It's such a stupid argument that I can't believe anyone makes it in good faith.

  • I organize and build relationships in my community. Everyone has something to offer and something they need. It isn't always immediately obvious what those things are, so it's nice to have an existing network when you figure it out. Get together. Have potlucks. Share your skills, knowledge, tips, tricks and resources.

  • Linux Mint Debian Edition. You can use Debian testing repos for more updated packages and kernels if you want. Also, it seems like more and more applications are adopting flatpak anyway.
