  • Location is very important. If you don't get any nibbles or see anything jump, try moving to a different spot.

Time of day and patience are key. Sometimes you'll get bite after bite, and then the next time at the same spot, nothing.

Also try switching up your bait if it's not working, but you think there are fish there, as they can be picky eaters. Using shiny lures seems to work well.

Never underestimate the effectiveness of giving the line a little jiggle as you reel it in to simulate live prey.

I like to bring gloves to protect my hands from sharp fins (some can cut the shit out of you easily), as well as pliers to remove the hook as quickly and painlessly as possible.

  • Mine arrived and I am pleased with how quality it feels.

D-pad is better than I expected. No more stick drift. Cost half as much as an Xbox controller. You can't go wrong.

  • My Ultimate 2C is being delivered today and I'm very excited.

  • A couple projects at the moment.

A 3D platformer/adventure, my "dream game", which I realized the scope exceeds my capabilities for now until I learn more. I'm taking some inspiration from games I've been playing like Cavern of Dreams and Pseudoregalia and will be simplifying it eventually to be closer to those. Here's a little demo video of the character hopping around a level and solving a puzzle

A 3D rogue-lite made from the bones of the project above. There is a drought threatening the faeries, so you have to go collect dew drops from dusk til dawn before they evaporate. It's basically kicking balls in a 3D space and plays kind of like a janky Rocket League. Sort of fun, at least!

A 3D platformer/FPS, sort of like Half-Life. This is my latest and is meant to help me solidify an understanding of game systems and how to keep it lean and simple. The shooting is janky though and I'm not sure I care to make proper enemies so it might get simplified further to just be little puzzles.

  • Knew Rowe? Die, virgins.

  • Nirvana's version of The Man Who Sold the World.

  • Sounds like you are a couple steps ahead of where I'm trying to be. I don't need many amenities or anything, just some peace and fucking quiet. Outdoor space for a garden would be a dream come true.

  • The constant barrage of unfortunate events.

Went through a breakup while unemployed and was facing homelessness since my cost of living practically doubled instantly. The cats were hers and I miss them every day.

Got a new job and my car broke down and died on the first day of work.

Trying to move to somewhere affordable but I definitely need a car for where I'm looking to go. Found a car but it's 5-6 months wait time for the factory order, so I continue to pay insane rent by myself in the meantime, and look for a used car to maintain my good standing with the insurance company.

Got a brand new bed a few weeks ago. Yesterday noticed ants climbing all over the wall right next to it. Luckily they weren't in the bed but I had to move it to an inconvenient spot for peace of mind, and worry about more ants coming back. There's no food or anything even close to the bedroom.

Every time someone moves out of this apartment building the new people who move in have multiple dogs. There are more dogs than people living here. They're constantly barking and howling and setting each other off and nobody does anything about it. I can't escape the noise anywhere in my unit.

I just want to get out and start the rest of my life in a new place already.

  • Consider getting a line of credit to increase your buying power and in case you have repair costs in the future.

Absolutely get a set of winter tires, not just for safety in Canadian winters, but also because it should lower the cost of insurance. Do not skip the winter tires.

  • Blood, sweat, and tears went into making that "cake"

  • You could try hiring someone on Fiverr. There are plenty of freelancers looking to take on work, and they should give you some level of customer service, and set your expectations for what actually needs to be done.

  • Bake your own bread. It costs less, tastes better, and there are no plastic bags involved except for re-using ones you already have.

  • Check out Dome Keeper. Mine resources to buy upgrades and protect your dome from waves of aliens. There are lots of game modes and modifiers to get different experiences each run.

  • Getting emails faster than you can read and respond to them, and they are all urgent exceptions.

Meetings that could have been emails, wasting your time while the real emails continue to stack up.

Askng important questions (via email) and getting ignored, or only some of the questions addressed.

Visits from the newest suit talking about how great their new ideas will be, just like the last one who said the same thing and was replaced after 6 months.

It is a lot like the movie Office Space, except in current times instead of one job you're doing the work of 2.5 people and making less than Peter did in 1999.

  • Great post/format. It feels like I'm a kid reading the gaming news magazines at the grocery store again.

I've been playing Ori and the Will of the Wisps. I like it and the changes they made since Blind Forest, but I'm also feeling frustrated by repeatedly getting lost, even with quest markers. It's tiring to waste so much time traversing the map just to find out I have to go back... somewhere else. Never had this problem when playing Blind Forest.

  • I'm interested in knowing the titles you're playing, if you care to list them.

  • Like others have said, $100 is a lot. That's the kind of gift one might expect from a direct family member. $50 would be plenty.

Flowers and chocolate on top of that will come off as trying too hard and showing romantic interest. Spare yourself the accusations and tension it will cause between you and your friend. It's a very easy target that people this age will make fun of you for, even if you just intended to be polite.
