I'm not an expert either, but the DAC on my Galaxy S10 sounds amazing. It's just a question of whether manufacturers bother implementing it properly.

This could be a long shot but if it's a Samsung Galaxy Tab S, the battery connector solder joints kinda die after a while, which can either be fixed by reflowing them or by applying pressure (I have a tablet with that issue). You could try pressing on the battery connector and see if it works then.

Most mobile devices won't work without batteries. The best way to work around this is to supply it with 4.2V (anything between 3V and 4.2V will do) over the battery connector.

In terms of FOSS apps MuPDF is the best one I've found. It's not as good as the drive pdf viewer though, MuPDF is more oriented towards books

I started making an Android app for it here. It's obviously still in a very early stage, but it can already kind of display profiles. Also disclaimer I don't really know what I'm doing, this is more of a yolo I wanna look into Android app development kinda thing.

While I can't comment on the beeper side of things, I did look into matrix and bridges a bit.

From what I understand, for all e2ee services you use through beeper (and matrix in general), all messages get sent to the server encrypted by matrix, then the server decrypts them and they get re-encrypted in a different protocol (ie. WhatsApp/Signal/...) and then the encrypted message goes out to whatever service.

This would mean that technically the matrix server is able to read all your messages.

This is my main reason for still using the native apps for encrypted services. For unencrypted services I use a my own matrix server with bridges.

I looked into this a while ago, I don't know a solution, but if I recall correctly miracast, the "normal" protocol for casting, was removed from AOSP in like Android 6 or something. Many major manufacturers have added it back like Samsung for example, but that led to many custom ROMs not having it, as they just don't have the same capacities as the bigger companies.
