  • The tiktok ban has nothing to do with China and everything to do with America. China is your new red scare.

Regulate your companies, all of them. I wonder how fast this conversation changes when it's about protecting Americans' data and privacy rather than getting Americans riled up against communists 2.0

  • Xbox debates this constantly, famously (unconfirmed). The CEO wanted to end xbox after the xbox One Failure, with Spencer convincing him based on the merits of gamepass. After the original Xbox wasn't a success, they had to consider then too, as well as when the red ring of death forced their hand on either abandoning the platform or investing billions into replacements for every single xbox 360 console sold thus far.

Every single xbox console has had some moment that Microsoft has had to decide if they should continue, and if it was a normal company that has to be profitable and balance its books, it would have folded a long time ago.

  • Some games back in the day needed a patch the first week of release and never got one. Famously, the Japanese version of Kirby super star had to be recalled because it was so buggy. Half the intended mechanics in ff6 either don't work properly or just flat out do nothing.

I really like old games, I have a bunch of old consoles that I play all the time, but this rose tinted view on things has got to go. Old games were buggy, too, they just did less and so had less to fail on.

And up until the ps2/3 era, qa was just the developers testing it themselves.

    1. China isn't an adversary. It's a competitor to America. You aren't at war with China, and both China and America heavily depend on each other and are strong trading partners. This is your propaganda talking.
    2. Lol no, Facebook and Google collect orders of magnitude more data about you, your life, your job, your friends and colleagues, your medical status, everything.
    • it's not owned and controlled by Americans. This makes American billionaires unhappy, and the liked of Zuckerberg would be very happy for the removal of comepetiton.
    • America has a sinophobia problem, I know a lot of Americans here don't see it, and get mad if you bring it up, but from the outside looking in, it's very obvious.
    • Policy makers in America seem scared of young people being politically motivated, and a lot of that is happening via tiktok. It stopped the red wave, it's now impacting democratic polling, they're losing control.
  • Before getting all mad about bad articles, this is probably more a case of vanillaware not being able to afford to port right now and wanting to focus on what they know. It'll likely come later
