  • It's funny that the only app being banned, is the app that young people used to have a dramatic effect on American politics recently, first by blocking the red wave, then by tanking democratic polling thanks to their support for genocide.

It's funny that Twitter or Facebook, which is absolutely full of outside influence on America, isn't banned. The Russian and Chinese bot networks can live forever there, that's fine.

  • Star citizen exploits its userbase with a never-ending drip feed of bite-sized consumables, just as long as you keep feeding the machine.

This is not some poor little indie dev. They have taken over 600 million from they're users, and have nothing finished to show for it. I treat them with the same distain that I do companies that trive on lootboxes and live services, as they all work from the same base template. At least the live service people made a game before squeezing every penny out of people.

  • Sir, this is a discussion platform. People leave text to have a discussion.

if you don't want to, that's okay. You don't have to continue. Just don't reply, you don't need to leave a message like that, that's just weird

  • Just at the cost of setting up the American version of china's firewall, right?

It's going to be weird for the rest of the world to have access to tiktok, but just America bans their citizens from accessing it. America really just isn't so far from what it hates.

It's also strange to see people championing a path towards this, it's all good until they decide to ban the thing you don't hate though right?

  • I would argue that this is the opposite order. You want to take care of the people who actually hold power over you now, China has no power over you.

Look at what the eu has done. First control and regulate the local companies.

  • One of the big reasons the ps5 usually beats out the Xbox hardware, despite worse hardware by the numbers, is because of this kind of thinking.

They built a custom ssd controller that the gpu has direct access to. This means when something needs to happen involving the ssd and gpu, the gpu can just directly access the memory it needs to without needing to wait on the cpu.

Just let the gpu do what it does best without having to wait on the cpu, and everything is going to go so much smoother.

  • Sorry but it's not wrong. The anti circumvention clause in the drmc was the direct complaint from nintendo against yuzu. Please research that clause and the legal prior art, especially against decss. I've had this conversation too many times to repeat it again.

  • They are still running afowl of the anti circumvention rules in the dmca. Just saying you have to provide your own keys isn't enough.

A switch emulator that wants to be safe from nintendo has to have no capability of circumventing the copyright protection mechanisms nintendo employs.

Look at vlc for inspiration. It can play blurays, it can't circumvent the copyright protection of blurays. But if you provide the keys and the library that decodes the content then it can play them just fine. This keeps vlc safe.
