  • Lemmy (and reddit to a degree) is not like other social networks where you are lumped into one giant community. It's many communities, and you'll find that you are welcome in some and not welcome in others. That includes your politics and your views.

I don't think I'd be very welcome in a community of conspiracy nuts, especially when I counter everything they say. I think they would remove me from that community at some point, and that's okay, self policing of communities is okay. Sometimes you aren't welcome.

  • Retrotink 5x immediately solved all my issues without additional setup or tinkering. Heavily recommend it. Ossc is cool and I love the open side of it. But retrotink 5x just plain works, and if you want a tinkering scaler the retrotink 4k does that thr best.

    • the screen is amazing and unique.
    • the filters in combination with the screen creates an incredibly authentic but also high quality and artifactless experience
    • the dock allows for a switch experience of playing on the go and also on a tv with a controller
    • the open fpga platform allows you to play games from dozens of consoles and handheld and even more arcade pcbs
  • The article poising this as an analogue competitor seems naive.

It doesn't have any of the things people buy an analogue pocket for. If you want to say, "This is an analogue pocket but cheaper and without any of the features," sure. But so is a regular gameboy with an lcd mod.

Which is really what this competes with. It competes with mods of original gameboys.

  • Optical discs are already incredibly resistant and shouldn't be expected to fail in your lifetime. Most of the times they do, it's either old media (cd and dvd both had physical flaws in design), damage, or mistakes in manufacturing.

There's really no reason for the discs to degrade. It's just stamped plastic.

  • The answer that the status service websites will tell you: we automatically detect outages by performing http requests and checking responses for errors

the actual answer: some overworked developer gets woken up at 3am via pagerduty and manually set the status website to an outage state

  • I doubt Sony is making much, if anything, on psvr2. It's a really high value device for the price.you can pay a lot more and get less.

So it's hard to see a world where this happens. What's the end result here? Sony loses game sales, and valve gets a free extra bump.

  • Ai actually has huge problems with this. If you feed ai generated data into models, then the new training falls apart extremely quickly. There does not appear to be any good solution for this, the equivalent of ai inbreeding.

This is the primary reason why most ai data isn't trained on anything past 2021. The internet is just too full of ai generated data.

  • The fact is, players are happy to pay a premium so that the games live in their steam library

i don't think you can make a statement like that, that is so untested. If capcom were to start selling games at $70 on steam, and $50 on capcom.com things might be different, we can't really say.

  • Ai is really just money laundering but for anything. It takes everything in the models and builds things just like them.

Either we need to abandon copyright or big tech needs to start working on building models that aren't absolutely full of copywritten content.

  • Or we can mandate that pets should be allowed because humans want pets and landlords have driven humans out of home ownership, so now they need to be massively regulated.

If landlord's don't like it, they can sell up and people can buy homes again.
