  • For one, I see no reason to decide I'll never play any game made after a certain point, barring a hardware requirement that I don't want to fulfill (eg buying a new console). That's just arbitrarily limiting good media that I could enjoy.

Second, the "Game Library Completion" preoccupation is another mistake, imo. I understand feeling bad about "wasting" money, but turning one's hobby into a (monumental) task/chore isn't gonna help that. It'll probably just ruin that hobby.

All that said, do what makes you happy. If that's all you want to do, I hope you enjoy it.

  • Yep, sure do! But only on my own instance in accordance with our polices; communities I moderate elsewhere are modded according to those instances’ rules and TOS.

Your soft-banning of anyone fully participating in this community on LW belies that claim.

the upvotes-given to downvotes-given ratio threshold for the automated ban is quite generous

"Generous" downvote banning. Now that's an oxymoron.

  • So you (self-admittedly maining on another instance (in reality the admin of that instance)) are locking an entire community on LW in protest of their admin policy on their instance? That's bold, to put it mildly. You instance-ban users for downvoting, so it makes sense you find this change personally unreasonable.

Myself? I don't think the new change is a great idea, but I prefer it to short-fuse blanket bannings like that.

  • No diagnosis, but at least similar issues. Best metaphor I've come up with is that it's like trying to push two magnets together that are the wrong way around. Visually it looks simple as can be, but the invisible forces preventing it feel impossible to overcome.

  • Do I misunderstand how federation works, or should a block like that not do anything unless your home instance is hosted in that particular country? The instances communicate with each other, not directly with the users. It's similar to viewing blocked content through a VPN.

  • Source? As far as I can find, there are no laws in the US banning felons from being firefighters. A company can deny an application because of it, but it's case-by-case, not some countrywide thing.

  • Not that it stops this guy from being a pos idiot, but he did say "any amount". Your critique would fit if he were complaining about local FD "not doing their job" or something.
