As a founding member of the organization Birds Were Real, I resent this conflation of reality. Clearly this is evidence that birds were at some point real but now are not, Birds Aren't Real is trying to spread propaganda to push a narrative that is factually wrong.
From research and data we can tell birds existed at some point, the fossil record is inarguable, but there is zero evidence that there are any living birds left among the cohort scientists claim as living examples of "birds". It seems like every other week news comes out about how some flying creature that scientists were previously totally confident was in the bird family is actually a totally different unrelated animal like a bat or a cricket or a flying squirrel.
The Birds Aren't Real people are absolute nutjobs, they deny the reality of the fossil record right in front of their very eyes, as hard as it is to believe for some, birds did exist long ago in Earth's history but at some point they all left on a spaceship and never came back (what do you honestly believe Dodos just went... extinct because Europeans slaughtered them all for no good reason? They had built complex aqueducts and developed basic electronics by that point, there is no way they would have just let their bird sect be wiped out, it would be like human beings not developing a masculine culture of war and logic to fight back against saber tooth tigers, not a chance).
In a democracy one of the very most important choices that must be made by citizens is what other nations are considered allies or an enemies.
The funny thing is that US citizens have absolutely zero control over who the government decides is our enemy or ally. That aspect of government is entirely partitioned off as separate from the “democracy”, as if the foreign policy element of our government was itself a foreign nation we have no control over.
While we are on the topic, fuck the government of Saudi Arabia and Israel, both governments are horrendously violent.
Huh, weird, you know I seem to only have "technical issues" about understanding how in capitalism you have to actually purchase the products you take from shelves when I am exiting Walmart stores.
Once I get near the door I just get all of sudden get confused about thinking that Walmart must be a government run care facility, I mean taxpayers subsidize Walmart's entire workforce because they don't pay a living wage to any of them, can you really blame me for my confusion?? Sometimes I end up thinking crazy thoughts like Walmart wants me to take some things for free because they feel sorry for obliterating the local businesses I used to frequent in my community (and the associated good quality jobs).
Sometimes confusion gets the best of us I guess, we are all fallible people including Walmart™ which as we all know, is indeed a person.
Look we already had a manufactured public panic over evil disney villain types putting razor blades in candy or something for no reason in order to get us all onboard that Halloween is about supporting candy corporations.
You are going against the spirit of the holiday if you make homemade food or candy and offer it to kids because unlike massive corporations you can’t be trusted, after all massive corporations have a perfect track record of not hurting kids! This is America, trust your personal fav corporation over your neighbor :) and don’t disrespect American culture please.
Good good, I was going to say that clearly looks like a Russian spy device placed clandestinely on American soil right under citizens very noses but you have assuaged my fears.
Do you genuinely think if I did have serious problems that this kind of attitude and response would do anything other than make me feel more shame and make it less likely I would get help?
The clearly implied meaning of using “Congratulations” in your post is to convey an ironic sense of surprise at something that isn’t surprising or new, and that most other people (or at least you) have known for a long time.
Why would you use “Congratulations” in this context for any other purpose than condescension?
I mean I don’t even care that much but I don’t get why you are denying it?
I love the illustration but clearly this man would become a basketball star and this illustration should have been him dunking a basketball with super long frog legs since it’s basically inevitable.
Dunking a basketball is the first thing you would do with frog leg superpowers, it is the first thing I would do with frog leg superpowers, it is the first thing any reasonable person would do, we are literally all in agreement with this (except for people that can already dunk I suppose but they would have even more reason to try dunking with their new set of legs right?).
Gotta love this framing that is trying to get me to see China as the big bad rival.
Like, we are in a climate emergency, great if China makes a bunch of solar panels and drives down the cost, it’s the US’s fault for not recognizing that this is an emergency too and responding by subsidizing solar production in the US to the point that China’s actions weren’t a problem.
If we were talking about graphics cards, or luxury cars, or something else that wasn’t trying to combat catastrophic climate change I might feel differently, but in this context things are so desperate that it is as simple as More Solar Panels = Good
It’s more than that because after a certain point your workers dying from heat stroke isn’t profitable…
The pathetic truth is that it really isn’t about money, it’s simply about hate.
Hate for the poor, hate for immigrants, hate for a brown construction worker standing in the shade getting 5 mins of relief coming from another Karen driving by in her BMW on her way to an AC’d office (look, they aren’t even doing any work! she says exasperatedly to her luxury car dashboard).
It’s just about the hate at this point, money be damned.
It is as simple as the fact that being banned from a Lemmy instance does not shutdown access to all of Lemmy’s communities like it does with Reddit.
This allows actual, messy, contextualized moderation to happen within communities according to the values of those communities without creating broader distortions in a global moderation policy and enforcement scheme.
In other words there are unfortunately transphobic communities on Reddit and Lemmy, but the difference is there are also (many) communities on Lemmy that if you start spouting transphobic bullshit a moderator will unceremoniously and fairly quickly shut you down without a bunch of techbro handwringing about censorship or general apathy towards violence against trans people.
This aspect does in fact make Lemmy clearly better than Reddit on the whole, because this is a fundamental issue to social networks and communities.
