  • I don't get this....take the auto industry Trump tariffs foreign cars, so some automakers setup in USA to manufacture, the rest of the world moves on.....USA now makes cars but can only sell them in the USA......not enough demand to sustain the auto makers...Manufacturers start buying each other out in USA........left with 1 or 2 big makers........the rest of world no longer cares and has detached from USA markets in general (or equally tariffs USA goods).....USA sits isolated and falling behind. Now expand this to other industries.

  • Considering the 'looseness' of the specific date, I find it odd that some cling so hard to it's significance, the feeling of having to change it seems to much to bear for some. It would possibly be better to use Federation day ( although that date is inconvenient for a public holiday) or another day chosen from a selection in a referendum or similar. While we stoke divisive fires this will never change. Personally change the date I can adapt and if it makes some happy what do I care, I just want the day off.

  • Hello, I'm far from an expert but I had a similar issue on my desktop, running mint and an Nvidia GPU. After looking at a lot of places for an answer one that did work for me was below

    Ust/bin/Nvidia_sleep.sh. (off the top of my head it is something like this, can confirm later if you can't find it.)

    At the top put in "exit 0"

    See if it works for you. But it seems when I get an update it does at times get overwritten.

  • Why not have a structure in place that has Microsoft review/test code from third parties. At the end of the day it is Microsoft that took the public hit so they should be the last line of defence in this process.

    Those that wish to have their code sit at the privileged/kernel level should either pay up or supply Microsoft with resources to do the tests Microsoft would require.

    What shouldn't happen is third parties doing their work at a privileged level without the oversight.

  • Thanks for your reply. Although the slides above show a division within Ukraine caused by his history etc. This was ostensibly one country going to war against another for the should purpose it seems to occupy.

    In the case of the Israel/Palestine conflict, this was basically a terrorist group attacking Israel and now Israel retaliating over and above what should be considered acceptable.

    So why wouldn't China be more or at least just as vocal in calling for a cease fire and return to normality. Which was the basis of my original question.

    I understand their are subtleties and many more parts at play, but let's just say STOP to Israel and Russia.

  • Yeah I see what your saying and COVID did test us like never before but;

    -We had a nation blatantly allow their citizens to spread throughout the world (I assume because they were not wanting to admit they had a problem).

    -We had a somewhat coordinated effort (but was thwarted due to political gain/manouevering in a lot of countries).

    -I think the selfishness, at least in my country started pretty much straight away. And made it harder the whole way through.

    These points above, in my mind were enough to show me that we really can't together when it counts. Another example is global climate change, we are staring that in the face and we still can't get it together.

    I imagine seeing on the news NEWSFLASH: Aliens have arrived and seem threatening..... We wold have;

    -One country trying to make friends with said aliens to gain an upper hand.

    -Another country trying to be the worlds hero and go it alone by attacking them.

    -Governments quickly trying to take their chance at gaining their last bit of control by clamping down on citizens.

    -Nations trying to help themselves only and foregoing other nations (eg. Yeah nuke that nation to save ours)

    I do hope we do better but past experience doesn't give me hope.

  • I had this discussion with my work colleagues before COVID was a thing. I asked the question along the lines of "If aliens were to come to earth and pose an existential threat could you see the world uniting as one"

    I don't believe so. I think although we would weakly work together the big world players still could not put aside their issues and trust enough to get the job done.

    Then COVID occurred and I brought this question back up citing that even a global pandemic couldn't generally get us to put aside our differences and work for the benefit of the world.

    In the back of each countries head would be "How do I as a country emerge from this threat as the dominate force".
