  • For final fanrasy, Square is pretty decent on constantly porting old games to modern devices.

All the mainline titles exist in some form on PC through legitamate channels, and consoles as well as mobile have various ports as well (not necessarily all of them)

  • All the big companies who owned a majority of cable television channels have all essentially created their own streaming service

    Paramount/CBS: Paramount+

    Disney/ABC: Disney+

    NBC/Comcast: Peacock

Fox: not aware if they have a major one

    CW/WB/Discover: HBO Max

Then of course the conpanies that spawned from streaming services.

  • very rarely sell in quantities of one, but usually some of the end clients are resellers. If you're ever like on Amazon and find refurbished dell desktops, or any laptop in general (including apple products), there's a decent chance it came from an e-waste organization first before being bought by a reseller in bulk. There are some companies who "bling" old desktops and resell them in the market place.

  • yes. Companies goal is to essentially take in e-waste and used stuff, sort through it and pull out decent laptops/desktops wipe(or destroy) hard drive based on instructions, and resell. The company that gives us the goods gets a cutback of what's being sold. everything else that is junk is then sorted and recycled to their respective correct facilities. Gotta use the second R in the 3 R's and the third for whatever is considered old. What's considered old goods is still very desirable to another company, especially companies outside of the U.S where computers may be more expensive, especially when you're trying to get them in bulk.

the work laptop I use is definitely used goods, in fact relevant to thread as it is a 8th gen Thinkpad T490.

  • The wall most people have is that they dont have a capable monitor to use it well (miniled with fald or oled) both fairly expensive.

There are tips and tricks to get some applications working with auto hdr that was never designed to work with HDR (e.g you can get switch emulation with HDR with a name hack)

  • Theyre playing catchup when it comes to specifically fabs (iirc they have 28nm working, 20nm this year) which puts them at 2014 fab process wise. Its pretty significant, as starting up a fab is not easy, especially when the U.S, Netherlands, and Japan all want to prevent a competitor.

In terms of gpus, Moore Threads (a newish company spawned from an ex nvidia of China head) has a "functional" gpu on 12 nm (works in some things, but for the most part, requires a shit ton of driver work) which 12nm would be 2017/2018 level hardware, but the driver feels like decades behind.

As for CPUs, china has a joint venture with AMD, so china can use basic levels of ryzen tech for its own cpus x86 wise, else they have their own internal risc-v and arm based designs that do fine.

  • Sorry about my shitty wording, none of the thr basic stuff is installed, its basically a version of windows that assumes you are going to install your own version of most basic apps. Basically a media player, (both video and music), voice recording, skype and such are NOT installed.

If youre on a device that needs no major feature updates except security ones, thats ehat the LTSB build is for. Getting one legally is difficult, however...

  • Switch has 64+256 gb

Pc has 5 tb ssd + 12tb hdd and looking to an eventual NAS down the line

    PS4 has 1tb

Current laptop has 256gb ssd + 1tb hdd, thr laptop that will replace it (Framework 16) i have planned for 6 tb ssd

  • Of all the criticisms microsoft gets for being bloatware, one of its biggest boons is backeards compatibility and general support (after vista).

Its why the whole chromeos laptop fiasco is happening right now with "useless chromebooks"

  • Likely, but keep in mind, generally overtime, viruses become less* lethal as its the non lethal ones that survive to spread(as lethal ones kill host, and killing the host is detrimental for the spread of a virus)
