my guess would be that fingerprint on modern phone would still not be reliable enough at reddit scale if app is properly cleared and used the steps above.
not sure I follow? Your new account gets banned? You need to create it on a new ip and clear browser data. The easiest way to do that:
Clear your browser data for the page entirely (best to make a new browser profile).
Use celular hotspot for mobile network IP. These are highest value IPs as they are residential and shared between a pool of people. Very difficult to fingerprint.
Create account with an email and details you have not used before.
Use that setup for a while then switch to a VPN.
This is a very effective anti-fingerprint strategy that will get you over 99% of fingerprint systems and allow you to make as many accounts whenever you want.
Tbh I'm 80% conviced that Reddit is infiltrated by Israel astroturf and I say that as someone who used to support Israel.
All these bad actor signs that Israel justifies is actually doing a long term opposite if it can flip supporters like this. Extremely poor leadership of really unmatched levels up until recent US election of Trump imo.
There's a big piracy scene on Quest so if you really put in the effort you're not giving these evil assholes much but generally I agree. There's so much entertainment and things to do that I can really wait a bit longer as VR is not going away.
You need to delete all of your content ASAP because 12 year account can be 100% tied back to you. Everything you said and all of your history data might as well be public on the web with your name right now so you should keep that in mind.
Its laughably easy to tie accounts to identities these days with machine learning tools and 12 years of data is a lot.
Got banned for saying that "Israeli people should be upset enough with Netanyahu to have his head on a pike" for "advocating violence". Even non-native English speakers are familiar with this expression which does not literally mean heads on pikes unless you somehow travel back in time to medieval Europe.
I've been on reddit since it's inception and while I didn't go there that often now that Lemmy exists the ban kinda seals the Reddit brand for me.
Another turning point was the April fools mini game this year which was universally hated. This has never happened on Reddit before. I think Reddit is beyond redemption at this point unfortunately and Reddit itself thinks that so they'll get their bags while they can.
I love VR and have multiple devices but the platforms are still really bad. There's so much jank amplified by all of the greed by Apple and Meta. For example on Apple's VR device you can't have multiple users - they were so greedy that they thought they'd sell multiple devices per household.
Can't wait for Valves Deckard or whatever next VR project they're working on. Steamdeck is everything a handheld should be and if they can finally nail that in VR it would be awesome.
How is Quest a flop? Or are you talking about something else?
Bot quest and ray band products are huge success dominating their respective markets.
I really wish people were more serious about these markets so it can be done well from the get got rather than starting to be fixed and regulated 2 decades later.
I used to have my living room gaming pc on windows and switched to linux this year and its awesome. Sunshine/moonlight are two programs that allow you to stream games from your pc to any device and it's such a game changer!
If you take at least half of a reasonable utilitarian position then 70s don't stand a chance no matter how you look at it. Everything is literally better now except nostalgic bullshit like "housing was cheaper if I was white american" and "I couldn't doomscroll" sort of nonsense. Absolute drivel.
Vscode always breaks something so I do it as rarely as possible. Still can't remember a single new update or feature adding anything for me other than github copilot.
Tho I think people from 70s would very much still choose 2025 living over 70s. People really underestimate how much better we have now.
Especially if you take a look at the whole world outside of US bubble. You think people in Asia and Africa yearn for 70s? You think people in Easrten Europe has any fondness of Soviet occupation? Future shock is shockingly great in their eyes.
I think the more apt issue here is simply the fact that US empire is falling as this shock does not replicate everywhere so clearly it's not universal. Most places benefited greatly from information flow and imo it's a very clear net gain.
my guess would be that fingerprint on modern phone would still not be reliable enough at reddit scale if app is properly cleared and used the steps above.
