  • There are actually onions that you can do that with. I think the soil where those are grown is low on sulfer or something so the onion cant make the chemical responsible for making your eyes water.

  • Hey buddy. Lets roll it back. I'll fully agree that this person is an asshole. Okay? No one is disputing this.

However the point I really want to get to is when someone pointed out that many times innocent people are given the death sentence for crimes they didnt commit. Your response was and i fucking quote you "That’s a chance we are just going to have to take." That means you thibk it is okay to kill innocent people just because some other people did horrid shit.

So again, why the fuck are you actually okay with killing innocent people? That is what i want to know. You keep dodging around it. Answer the question "Why do you think it is okay for the state to have the power to kill people who have commited no crimes?"

  • Apt username.

"It is better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer" - William Blackstone.

Buddy are you so deprived of empathy that you have no problem with sending innocent people to their deaths? Are you okay with cops playing judge, jury, and executioner? Lot of innocent people die from cops deciding that its okay if that guy is dead.

  • I had to stop listening to ICHH it gave me way too much anxiety and was just too stressed back when i listened in 2020. I've since taken up to instead listen to BTB and cool people who did cool stuff off the same network. Monsters that are usually dead and people who kick ass make me feel better.

  • Gonna be honest here. Last time I ever heard anyone ever being beaten up in a bathroom was back in high school. What are you doing in there that causes so many people to fight you?

You know its just a privacy thing right? Like "hey dont look at my dick" sorta deal. You know this right? Right? RIGHT?

  • I collect vintage and iconic computers as a hobby, and the only reason i bought a win98 machine was so I could play DOS games on the real hardware. But otherwise yeah, it can do most things youd use a modern computer for very well other than it shouldnt connect to the internet.

  • So, I'm not the person you're replying too, nor am I a member of this minority group, but I do consider myself an ally. I do not personally know how offensive what was said is so I won't comment saying "it's not that bad" or anything of the sort.

But this is a thing I've seen in leftest communities where we don't know when to use the carrot vs when to use the stick. I'll admit I've said things in hindsight I feel awful about. But I've corrected that behavior because my friends knowing my good intentions lead me to be a better person. Here and like other similar communites however instead of talking to people in good faith to try to correct their behavior instead choose to punish and ostrisize them.

I don't know what your admin team's chat with the programming.dev admin team looks like, but I hope it can be resolved. I'll be very disapoinyed with my admins if it can't and will leave in solidarity.

  • My old man told me he took one programming language in college and it was APL. Having looked at APL since becoming a software dev myself, I can understand why he hated it.

It's just so gross and hard to read

  • Theres a reason the dog post got so much traction on linkedin.

Anyone out of the loop the dog pist says:

"Yesterday I was walking to an interview. There was a starving dog on the road. I stopped to feed him & missed the interview. The next day I got a call asking to come in to do the interview. I was surprised, but I went. Then the interviewer came in. He was the dog."

  • Theres a few schools of thought when it comes to teaching math. Theres the camp that thinks that you should see 285 X 342 and figure out in your head its 97,470. Then theres the other group that goes, well we just need to teach them the concept and then the students apply it. Its people in the first camp that said you'd never have a calculator and just isn't a realistic take on the world anymore. Very rarely do I have to sit down and remember what sin(30) is, but I can still do the trig work I've needed in my day job as a software developer.

  • Yeah, I remember being told this in 2005. Granted phones then were just phones with the calculator program built in because its an easy thing to tack on that costs basically nothing to add. I had a cell phone by then that was basically my own home line (it was always just at home for friends to call me), but like even then adults were largely expected to have a phone of their own. A few years later the 1st iPhone came out.

  • I found the poster on the birdsite, and from what I've seen of their pictures. No way is the subject them. The poster has way too long of hair for none of it to be visible in the photo.

Though having looked at their twitter, I am not surprised they said that about a stranger.
