  • WashPo is literally run by a former Murdoch executive and is owned by Bezos.

Wake up and smell the 2024. Its not 2014 anymore. Its not "circle jerked by WashPo", its "WashPo bans endorsements days before the election, timing maximum damage to the Kamala campaign".

We need to reject elitism: its what drives people away from the DNC.

You're falling for the fucking trap. The elites are Elon Musk, Zuckerberg, Bezos, LA Times, and all the other billionaires in charge of internet media, newspapers, and cable.

The "elites" are on one side. And they made their point very evident this past election.

  • This is a major issue.

    X is Elon Musk.

    Facebook/Meta/Instagram is Zuckerberg.

    Washington Post is Bezos.

LA Times is Patrick Soon-Shiong, a billionaire who is deeply tied into the tech world's startup culture.

    Reddit is ... Reddit.

When we are talking about the missing 10-million votes for Kamala, it starts with media. The media wasn't on our side this time around, and it showed. It was impossible to get Kamala's messaging out, and Trump's messaging always got screentime. It wasn't an accident.

To rebuild means getting solid news sources, solid online / social networks. It was no accident that the Elon Musk loving Cryptobro billionaires in charge of tech-companies, social media, and (now) are so rich that they've bought our old News Institutions.

This is where we start rebuilding. Lemmy.world is a small piece of it but it needs to be bigger. We absolutely need an independent location to organize online and counter-program the public.

  • Ish. I got my complaints but this isn't the topic for me to get into them.

The message of local organization is 100% needed right now. And is something the anarchist movements are good at, I must admit. I'll complain about methods later, after Trump. There's fires to be put out right now.

  • State and Local governments exist as the mainstream source of organization. We've lost the national election, but my local state is stronger than ever.

I'd say that the pockets of anarchists might make more sense in a Red State where you'd have enemies all around you. But if you're in a Blue State with large scale support, the best support structure you can aim for is just your State Government

  • I will never join an anarchist movement. But I appreciate the playbook in any case.

You anarchists keep doing what you do. I can never agree with you but it does give hope in this era. In any case, the playbook to form and organize local groups of resistance is 100% valid. If that's anarchists for you then so be it. But other groups should be springing up soon that will be closer to my political ideology.

  • I’m sorry that the election result didn’t go your way and your view of the world is falling apart. Such anger can only cause you harm for something you cannot control.

    Lulz.

The other side literally caused the Jan 6th 2020 event when the election didn't go their way. This guy just types up a few paragraphs in Lemmy.world to complain.

  • Republicans, despite significant consolidation under MAGA, are not a cohesive unit.

This past year, we've seen the buffoonery that was Mike Johnson's election to Speaker of the House. This next year, Donald Trump will bless Mike Johnson but, and a HUGE BUT, the buffoonery still exists and will be amplified by all of the new supporters Donald Trump has this time around. Ex: Elon Musk. More on him later.

But for now, lets address this point.

By February, Ukraine is gone. They already struggle not to win, but just to exist. European aid is not enough, and Ukraine will disappear from maps. The Baltics are next. Moldova is next. Poland is next. Georgia is next. Finland is next. Taiwan is gone. South Korea might survive, but won’t ever look the same. NATO is gone. Chinese and ruzzian influence in Africa and South America will grow tenfold. There is no superpower to keep ruzzia and china and north korea and iran in check anymore. Worst, when WWIII start, you will be on the Axis side.

There's a significant number of Republicans who are against Trump's isolationist rants and will be against him when this begins to happen. And the non-isolationist Republican numbers will grow as this progresses. With only 51 to 53 Senators, Republicans cannot afford significant numbers of defections when it comes to foreign policy / treaties (which must be signed by the Senate).

Democrats will be forced to work in unison with the non-isolationist Republicans to give those 3, 4, or 5 Republicans (willing to stick their necks out) a shot at keeping our foreign policy solid. But that's all we need at those points to prevent the collapse of treaties.

The things I worry about are the broad abuses of executive power over the short term. RFK Jr. in the Department of Health and Human Services + Elon Musk in some kind of major Cabinet (or otherwise Executive position) will wreck our government. We will have a lot of cleaning up / rebuilding to do in 2028.

However, the causes here are too disparate. Elon Musk and RFK Jr. are power hungry monsters. They'll have a few months to settle into their new roles, but ultimately they'll want more power. Never doubt in the narcissist's drive for power. This has come time-and-time again across ancient empires and modern governments: the advisors WILL push back on Trump for self-serving goals, and this WILL cause headaches.

Elon Musk in particular has a significant EV Trade (which Trump's followers are clearly against). Elon Musk has significant ties to China (Gigafactory Shanghai), and China WILL leverage this. Elon Musk is going to ask for calm relations between US and China so that his factories / battery supply stays solid.

So when the inevitable hole in the Tarriffs comes up (ex: Chinese Batteries are free to come in), Donald Trump's promise to the middle class Ford Factory workers (who are currently constructing Ford EV Battery plants) will finally be broken. Or, alternatively, Trump sides with Ford + US Battery manufacturers and fucks Elon Musk over.

Win/Win in my eyes. Either way, someone inside of Trump camp loses. The Tarriffs literally cannot help both Elon Musk's China relationship AND the nascent US Battery manufacturing chain. All the while, Tarriffs are fucking everyone else over, at least know that there's likely no political victories to be had on this front.

At some point, these headaches will be too much and it will be better for Trump to dispose of Elon Musk (or vice versa: Elon Musk to switch allegiances and try to fail upwards once more). There will be a political fight, because this alliance cannot stand long term.

  • I'm saying we needed like 10-million more votes to even reach parity with Biden 2020 here.

Complaining about a few hundred-thousand votes in one, albeit important, swing state, is missing the forests for the trees. This is a resounding defeat of the Democrat's platform this year.

The platform goes above and beyond just Harris btw. I'm including "Fascism" and other such arguments we used online / memes that clearly didn't work well enough. We need to talk about everything and prepare for 2026 and 2028.

  • Um wut?

Trump literally called the last Republican Candidate (John McCain) a loser. Trump insulted his way through the entire Republican primary, 4 times in a row (starting way back in 2012 during Obama years).

In fact, one of the top insults to Republicans today is RINO: Republican In Name only.

Today's Republican Party is one that has been bullied into submission. Paul Ryan has left. Bohner has left. The RNC chair has been literally replaced by Trump's daughter. Etc. etc. etc.

  • No. The election results are a blowout, larger than just this subcommunity.

I'm annoyed at Muslims for failing to back Harris and prevent the future atrocities. But I will not blame them. Trump got too many votes in general, and might even win the popular vote.

EDIT: We need a bigger reckoning than just blaming a minority of the minority. I don't want to blame Harris either, she seemed to do the best that she was given but it always was long odds given that she's a Half-Indian Half-Black Woman. (Racism from Whites, Racism from Indians for being a race-traitor, and then sexism from everyone including minorities).

But this is a bigger election loss than "just" a minority failing to show up to vote. We lost the Senate, Presidency, and probably the House.

EDIT: Kamala needed to win PA, WI, and MI. She literally lost all three of them. A large outspoken minority of just one State (MI) is not to blame for the PA or WI losses.

  • Trump could do it because he’s a fascist - he wants to discard democracy. A healthy system would have checked him not just then, but barred him from running again. We haven’t had a healthy system in a long time.

Trump himself isn't fascist. Though he's surrounded by them and I do fear them.

At a minimum, we need to discard useless language. "Fascist" failed to work in this election. Its been overused and/or the Republicans have built up mental defenses against it. It always was a bit of a stretch argument as the NeoNazi group is constantly berated even by Republicans.

The correct word is likely Authoritarian Social Darwinists (which is close to fascism in many important ways, including racism, superiority, smugness, purity of gene pools, etc. etc.). But I'm thinking its time we discarded "Fascist" and seriously moved forward and try to advance our linguistic political tools.

  • I don't think a non-Democracy or otherwise forced interim government can stand today. There's no legal basis and you're basically asking for Biden to just perform a coup and hand the reigns of power to someone.

I mean, I guess I appreciate your gusto but that's not gonna work.

  • Too late to prevent now.

Democrats refusing to give power now will forever destroy Democracy. The only hope we have is to give power to Trump and hope he doesn't break it too much.

As others noted: it's a one sided risk. Trump doesn't care about the future of Democracy. Democrats do care.

I expect that most Republicans, despite voting for Trump stupidly, also care about Democracy.

We have likely lost not only the electoral college vote this time around, but even the Popular Vote. It's a blowout. There's no excuses on a Democracy perspective.

I am a major Ukraine supporter. I was for Harris and everything. But now I'm worried about far more local issues. This is a resounding defeat of my trust of my fellow Americans, my coworkers, etc etc.

But we are not the ones in power. The election was a blowout in the wrong direction. Even if Jack Smith arrests Trump tomorrow what is that supposed to accomplish??

  • Run the numbers again with abstained votes.

If the women entered the polls only to vote for Abortion, but left the President line blank, then it easily explains one potential issue.

Just because people went to the polls doesn't mean they even voted on the Presidency.

  • Egos as big as Elon, Trump, RFK Jr. and others cannot work together for long.

The infighting will absolutely happen. The reigns of power only allow one grifter to be king above all others.

The Republican Party now needs to reward Crypto, Tech, Military-Industrial complex, Trump's teams, Religious vote and more. It's easier to keep unified before you have power, but inevitably now that the Democrats are defeated.... Their egotistical selves are setting their eyes onto their next prizes.

They will be satisfied with various positions of power for a few months at best. RFK Jr. Really doesn't want to run the CDC, Musk doesn't want to make the bureaucracy efficient. They will grow bored of their positions.

  • Youth vote leaned into Trump. It's an across the board / demographics loss for Democrats.

You can't blame this on the boomers. It wasn't much leaning but Trump gained support here.

You need to just fully recognize that your brand of politics is falling apart and we need real answers in the next 4 years. It's going to be even harder after the grifters have even more megaphones drowning out the truth
