  • I have att fiber here on the nw side and it's pretty damn sweet. 1gbps up AND down. I just have to keep dodging bullets, tripping over dead bodies and putting up with a bunch of snowflake libs to have it.

ETA the /s that I thought would be obvious

  • I was on drugs (lots of drugs) AND slackware in the late 90s and early 00s!

  • Mullvad just killed port forwarding right? Proton still offers it on some servers.

  • Kde connect is so underrated.

  • ffmpeg Front-End

    Jump
  • Agreed, handbrake is what you want.

  • I've just installed sway with nwg beside my usual kde/xfce. There's a bit of a learning curve but I think I'm getting the hang of it.

  • They're manufactured in the UK right? You should probably go to bed!

The GPU crunch was way more painful for me. I waited as long as I could and even went igpu for a year. Finally I overpaid for a nvidia gpu that never played nice with slackware / wayland. It ended up forcing me to replace it with an amd gpu recently. Wanna buy a gently used 3060 ti?

Please serve me more beer and liquor ads. I haven't had a drink in almost a decade but that's all I seem to see when I'm not on my pi-hole filtered home network.

  • Yeah, and he's got plenty of room to let his logs get completely out of control! My home instance has trouble with that sometimes.

  • That sounds like something a bot would say!

I wanted to get a rpi4 when they were nowhere to be found. I refused to pay a scalper so I ended up with a few rockchip devices. I like tinkering and trying different things with them. I made one into an android streaming / dvr / emulation box. I turned a low power one into a pi hole. And I have an orange pi 5 that I still don't know what I want tondo with it.

I don't have any need for another x86_64 device. I have plenty of them already. That being said, I probably won't buy a rpi5 either. Or at least I won't rush to buy one.

  • There are bots on lemmy? I thought I escaped the bots...

  • That seems like a pretty substantial investment for something you don't have much experience with or a plan for what you'll do with it. I'm not criticizing. I'm actually kind of jealous. Maybe figure out how to host your own lemmy instance!

  • OP, please listen to this.

  • I love that young people are still discovering soulseek just like I did back in the day. It gives me hope for the future of humanity.

  • I use it on snap!

    (J/k, I don't)

  • I honestly don't know anything about Garuda. I don't have much meaningful experience with any distro besides slackware. I've had an empty 50gb distrohop partition for months. I was going to give vanilla arch btw a try to see what all the fuss is about, but I haven't gotten around to it.

  • Don't laugh, hear me out...

    Slackware current (rolling release)

Then switch to LTS version at the next release, which I'm thinking will happen before the end of the yeay.

It checks all of your boxes and will give you a different take on Linux computing.

  • My ADHD is severe and all encompassing! I have a tendency to over complicate everything, and pico doesn't really let me do that.
