  • As someone who speaks German alright (lived there awhile and studied a few years in school) gendered nouns and all of the versions of "the" are just stupidly laborious and I never cared if I got it wrong. Even if my accent was okay (it wasn't okay, my US German teacher was Danish and I was sometimes told I sounded Danish) my lack of fucks about der, die, das, dem etc made it very obvious I wasn't a native speaker.

All of that said, I found that popup kids book pretty easy to read.

  • I came here to get away from Reddit. Not only is it becoming more and more like it, too many posts in my feed are about it. If I wanted to go back there I would. Haven't been in at least 14 months. Please go to Reddit to complain about Reddit.

  • Try taking about Palestine's poor attempt at an Israeli genocide and it goes just as badly. Most mods just ban opinions they don't like. It used to make me mad, now I think they're just sad little authoritarians ruling their little teacups.

  • 2020 was hell, I got like eight days off and I had COVID twice that year. The first bout was after the vaccine was available but I wasn't eligible because I was two years too young. It didn't matter that I'm immuno-compromised. I barely got through that. A friend of mine shot himself because he couldn't deal with it, he kept going to the emergency room and they kept sending him home.

My second bout with COVID that year after getting vaccinated was even worse. It was at least a month and I'm not at at all suicidal but I thought I wasn't going to make it. I run a small nonprofit and we are still around for now, we'll see in another few months. Nothing has been the same economically since then. I've tested positive four more times since then, and I don't even test every time I get sick. I guess I'm still alive, I'll try to be thankful.

  • Our media was more supportive of Obama than Trump, at least the second time around. Maybe it's because of Trump's rape trials, Jan 6, and everything that came out of his mouth. But don't pretend that media was as critical of Obama.

  • Let me be 100% clear. People who commute on bikes in my area are dead. Or they gave up because of a near death experience. I have lived here 18 years, I have seen one regular bike commuter. He caused major traffic backups, which was his safest option, at least they knew he was there. He lasted three weeks. I hope he's not dead. You can not commute on a bike everywhere.

  • I don't know where the person who commented that lives, but you can't get an Uber five blocks for under $10 around here. If I was that close and walkable I'd just walk. I do know uber is losing drivers locally though because they don't pay enough, certainly not enough for people to maintain their cars. It's predatory employment at this point, and it is becoming normalized.

  • I was just commenting on a thread about public transportation (there's none where live) and someone commented that they're moving to micro transportation by just buying a $3 Uber every time they need to go somewhere. Even if uber is only taking $1 of that, $2 isn't paying someone to drive you somewhere. Uber drivers should make at least $30/hr.

  • I still eat eggs even with the bird flu pricing (I'm still not convinced it isn't just a story to justify price gouging). But I haven't been able to afford steak in months. That's at least a $25 breakfast even if I cooked it at home. I'm aiming for under $3. I still make what I made 25 years ago. This economy is so fucked for the working class.
